project idea

Hey guys, I'm new to this board and have only been shooting a few times, but here goes. I had a project idea that I think would be really fun, but would like to know what the average gun owner thinks of it.

I want to set up a perfect living room in the desert and have 30 people shoot it until you can't tell what anything is anymore and video tape the people shooting it. I guess I'll call it art for lack of a better word, and try to display it at a respectable gallery.

Now, I also want the 30 or so people shooting it to be "militiamen" of some sort and was thinking of doing it in Arizona. Would this be a possibility? What sort of guns would be best?

Thanks for any advice on this matter, regardless of the results it should be fun to do.

Interesting. I`m actually intrigued. Arizona has very relaxed shooting laws, so I can`t see how this isn`t doable. Might want to look at BLM land for the shoot. As for guns, obviously shotguns do the most damage, but I don`t think they come across quite as sexy on film as say "assault" type weapons with high capacity mags, etc. The border group thats always on the news, can`t think of their name, but they are all gun guys and might be interested in participating. Good luck!

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

You'd mostly want stuff that gives good effect on the room itself.

Shotguns using both slugs and large buckshot.
Handguns
Rifles

For video purposes, you'd want rifles in the AR15 category which are nicely decked out, and/or other types of "assault rifles".

Hitting it with some large caliber rifle rounds might give a nice effect as well.

With shotgun slugs, some Brenneke magnums would be very nice, as they do massive amounts of damage. Might even be nice to do a 12guage breaching job on the door.

My biggest concern with this is the safety aspect. If you're doing all the shooting from inside the building (and you'd have to, to make the bullet holes appear to be travelling the correct direction; otherwise you'd have hole-fragments spreading and spewing the wrong way). But if you're shooting from inside the building, then for 360 degrees around the outside of the building there would be bullets travelling out in all directions, which is extremely dangerous.
It'd be hella expensive, but best to line the outside with brick. Or, build it down inside a wash or canyon somewhere, and coordinate that anyone outside the room is OUTSIDE of the area, or behind cover and not moving from that cover till the session is over.

Hitting it from the inside with large caliber rifle rounds is kind of silly, but you could arrange to have it shot from a distance and arrange for where to hit the outter walls so that the penetrating rounds would hit interesting things inside the structure.

So, give considerable thought to the safety aspect. Make sure everyone's on the same page, have a pre-shoot safety briefing, make sure everyone knows what's going on and have them prepeat it back to you.

I think this might be fairly interesting. You'd have to really deck it out inside as though it were really a room, then be super careful to strip it apart and reconstruct it off site.
Be almost better to pre-build it and put it in place with a crane off of a flatbed, and load it back up the same way; keeping in mind that it's structural integrity would be severely fucked up afterwards. It'd take some figuring how to go about it.

let me know what you end up doing =)

As for guns, obviously shotguns do the most damage, but I don`t think they come across quite as sexy on film as say "assault" type weapons with high capacity mags, etc.

I beg to differ... my 12 is HELLA sexy.

Earth,

I have a 1945 Garand, Enfield No1 MKIII, Ithaca 12 gauge shotgun, Colt .32acp, 44 Mag with 8.5" barrel, and some other pretty sexy guns. Ammo is expensive these days. I recommend 12 gauge for affordability.

Also, let me know if you need to use some guns. I havent been shooting in ages.

I second that notion. I'd be up for that too if I could afford the gas... Maybe dave wants a carpool? I have 8 shotguns, which is half of my firearms collection; then assorted high power, medium power and low power rifles and handguns. My Browning .45-70 shoots a 500gr bullet though. It does relatively well for causing large impact =D
