Maiden Voyage
entry by Jinx

While on a location scout for a short film, I came across a dilapidated building in the city and knew I had to go back.

You can see the floors have rotted away, leaving the sky visible through the windows and doors.

I am in love with this door.

Peeking under the front door. Some guy in traffic yelled at me and asked what I was doing. He was nice.

This is the account of my first UE mission.

Months later, after becoming enamoured with dsankt's work, I realised it was a perfectly legitimate desire to traipse around abandoned and restricted buildings in the middle of the night.
So after roping in my friend, D, we set off on our maiden voyage. The city at night is pretty empty apart from the hordes of drunken twenty-somethings spilling from the mouths of night clubs and bars so we had no problem getting to the POE.

Our target is known as Spencer's Building and was a warehouse built around 1889, used as an ironmonger's workshop for years. The architecture is just beautiful, with Victorian facade and embellished window frames.

Unfortunately, the building was in the midst of construction work, re-furnishing the interior. On the plus side, this meant extremely easy entry (though I imagine the challenge of getting inside is half the fun of finding a site).

We jumped over a flimsy fence, shimmied under a makeshift door, and into the first floor.

Inside, the ceilings were much higher than we anticipated. Construction equipment cluttered the floor, but this came in handy when we wanted to have a look higher up - the ceiling-high scaffolding gave a nice vantage point.
It also allowed us to poke our heads up through the decaying floor boards and into the next level.

We hung around for a while but there wasn't much to do (I wasn't game to try my luck on those floor boards).

We headed back outside and tried to find a way up the outside stairs but they were boarded up with corrugated iron.

In hindsight, I would have had a better crack at it. You live and you learn.

We left, exhilarated from the adventure and stopped at another construction site on the way home, just for funsies.
A house was being raised and everything was just left wide open so we helped our selves to a look around.
