| | | Post Katrina - abandoned Medical Center < on 6/11/2010 11:22 PM >
| | | Lindy Boggs Medical Center, also called Lindy Boggs Hospital or Lindy Boggs, is a now-abandoned 187-bed acute care hospital operated by Tenet Healthcare located in Mid-City New Orleans, Louisiana. The hospital provided many services, including emergency care, critical care, and organ transplantation services. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, the hospital was at full census. Many employees' and patients' families decided to take shelter at the facility as well, thinking that they would be safer and more comfortable. When the levee system failed, however, many persons found themselves trapped in the facility with no way out. Many patients, especially those recovering from risky organ transplantation procedures, were not able to be given the medicines they needed most and, since both the power and the generators had failed, were without vital services such as mechanical ventilation and cardiac monitoring. A major evacuation effort took place, and mostly everyone was able to be rescued. (Source: http://en.wikipedi...ggs_Medical_Center)

| | | Posted by Neptune Really interesting pictures. We don't have many people from the New Orleans area on these forums, so it's nice to see someone posting from down there. I've been interested in seeing what has changed/hasn't changed since Katrina, as I am worlds away up here in Maine.

Thank you, I hope to do some more exploring in the very near future.

| | | This is the creepiest place I have ever been inside in my life. One look at the iron lungs and stuff and I panicked and hauled ass. I'm not a very spooky person but looking at this machine that someone probably died inside just scared the crap out of me. Plus, the machine just looks creepy. I think they're about to turn it into a nursing home now. Do you have any shots of the chapel? I was about to shoot it when I freaked out and ran.

Yeah it was definitely a creepy place. There are some shots of the chapel towards the end of that album. [last edit 6/16/2010 11:21 AM by BecomeTheChange - edited 1 times]

| | | Great photos man, this place looks absolutely massive. It's sad though seeing something like this rot away, especially knowing what it was originally used for. One of the many tragedies of Katrina I guess. :/

| | | that is amazing. the 3rd floor mold on the wall mark is freaky. I read the info saying that a "major evacuation effort took place, and mostly everyone was able to be rescued." but does anyone know how many people (if any) actually were left there (and died there) because of katrina?
