for some reason they chose the D7000 over the K-5iis despite the latter having better image quality, color depth, high iso performance, boost iso, can shoot 1 more frame per second in burst, and has image stabilization, which means it just generally takes better pictures.

Now here the Pentax is declared winner, probably because of almost identical image quality, better color depth, and being $370 cheaper.


Bottom line, The pentax K-30 is as good a camera/better than the D7000, while only costing $20 more than the d5100. It's the smallest of all the cameras listed here, with a rugged magnesium alloy body and weather stripping. This camera is straight up perfect for UE. I would definitely go K-30, but i'm obviously biased. I'd compare canons too, but I'm lazy, and the K-30's pretty tough to beat.

Wow, Thanks for the info! I will definitely take some more consideration when looking to upgrade. Would you ever say that there is a point where its too late to switch brands? I really enjoy Nikon but Pentax does seem like a solid deal. I just have a decent amount of Nikon gear already.

Well I have exciting news, I get to upgrade to a dslr from a slow as molasses super zoom VERY soon. After seeing many of the d7000 in use that is what I will get. Any lens suggestions? Also who has dealt with adorama?

My Nikon D7000 and 18-105 arrive Monday. Very excited.

My Situation:

I have a 7d that I bought used for a great price, and great ef-s lenses to accompany it. Now... I came across a sell on e-bay and was able to talk the seller to $510 for a 1ds-Mk i with RRS L plate. He claims it is in great condition. I have the 7d with great lenses, would it be worth picking up the 1ds as a back up, and to start up on my ff lenses slowly until I have the time to trade in both for something better? All suggestions appreciated! THANKS!

I don't think you'd get much out of the camera compared to your 7D yeah its full frame but that's about it. It's going to be slower at almost everything and the interface will seem incredibly clunky compared to the newer 7D. You'll need a firewire to change some of the setting and newer computers (windows 7 and 8 might not even recognize it without driver help.

3fps and max of ISO 1250 not to mention pretty old sensor tech you'll see amp glow for long exposures and probably not that much better noise performance than the 7D. Most people say its pretty unusable at 800 or above No live view which is very handy for MF lenses or use in dark areas. Also review images on the camera is very slow and the buffer for continuous shooting is very small. Also the RAW files are .tif not the same as TIFF and not the same as .CR2 which some newer image software might have trouble reading.

If full frame is your goal and around $500 is the budget a used 5d classic is going to do a lot more for you image quality wise than the 1D will. The focus system won't be quite as good nor will the build quality, but everything else will be words better and newer.

I recently purchased a Nikon 1 V1 + 10-30mm they're selling for $289 now refurbished, which is a steal! To be honest I wasn't expecting much from this little camera but the image quality is epic; and it shoots in RAW! Sure a a real DSLR would be better but this thing if you want to travel light still takes awesome shots plus it shoots 1080p video which is rad.

I'm thinking about buying the optional GPS transponder ($89) and using it as a field camera, for when we're doing archaeology. Right now we have GPS unit that we use to mark sites, but being able to take photos and get the GPS coordinates at the same time would be pretty useful.

But I am still however utterly retarded when it comes to photography n(for now...)
So could could anybody give this a look over and see if it'd be ok for draining and night trips, I'm not overly worried about quality but I do want to look at these photos with some pride.

Does anyone have experience with the Olympus E-P1, there is one available on Craigslist locally for $150 with the 14-42mm kit lens. I am really just looking for a cheap compact camera that I can bring with me when I am not willing to lug around the D7000 that will have high image quality. I bought a Ricoh GR and it just isn't what I was looking for. I also plan on buying an adapter to use my Voigtlander and Leica L39 lenses on the Olympus. Anyways, anyone have some advice about this camera?

Hello! I'm having a debate about a future upgrade and would like a second opinion. I currently have a D3200 and am pretty happy with it, but it lacks some features that I am finding more important as I dig deeper into photography.

No auto bracketing. Poor quality at high ISO, and EV step customization.

So, I was looking at the D7100 and the D7000.

Now I'd like to stay under a grand and I think I can do this buying used, and if I sell the 3200. Also, taking video is a good option that I wouldn't want to lose on an upgrade.

I use a d7000 I love it so much I don't really have any worthy complaints, I got it for under 700$ refurbished from henry's photo (canadian). Your older dx lens will work fine. I'm using a Nikkor 35-105 D lens as my everyday lens and its from like 95, works incredible
