UE Noob Write Up

At this point in my UE career I have been into 3 different structures, two of them twice, and into one easy drain. I am learning from Shutchatrap and pretty well hooked at this point. This was my second adventure and most infamous(for now); the Springfield Metallic Casket Co.

Trap and I swung by Target to pick up gloves and a decent flashlight for me. The gloves are pretty much a part of me now. Then meet up with WarBird69 and a few others(sorry I forgot your screen names). We fail to find a way into one building so we move a few blocks over to the Casket Co. Entry was easy for some, hard for others. Either way we get in and are greeted by a giant Root Beer mug and an elephant! The root beer mug was used by an old root beer stand in town. No clue what the elephant was used for.

Also on the first floor we found what we suspect to be is the machine that actually made the metallic caskets.

There was some impressive looking electric things in a back room that may have been transformers and a rusty old Frankenstein switch that I didn't get a good shot of. Downstairs in the basement we found a few old notices that I guess were sent out with the finished products.

There were 3 floors above the ground level that were mostly empty other than a few bits of equipment used to paint the caskets. The third floor contained the actually paint booth which, considering the type of building we were in, was kinda freaky.

The fourth floor contained a heating and cleaning booth which I immediately recognized from my work in painting school bus doors in my youth. The interesting thing was that after heating and cleaning the caskets were lowered through the floor down to the 3rd floor for painting. The elevator actually used bits of the conveyor belt to lower them down.

We went up onto the roof and rolled around in the asphalt to get to the edge of the roof without being seen. Totally worth it. We wandered back down and upon leaving....we got caught. I saw the police car first. I won't relate the story as it's already been told. Suffice to say I went 'sploring the following day(in a different city!!).

I know my photography isn't that good, I have been reading the forums and going to try some of the tips. I hope everyone enjoys.

Yeah, man! The casket company is a pretty great place, and turned out to be a much better explore than I thought it was going to be. I'm glad that gettin busted didn't scare you off but you handled yourself well, especially for only your second time out. We need to check that place out again sometime before hey gut it.

Passed by this place. A shame they demolished many of the textile factories in the city. Good start, keep 'em coming

I'm glad your hooked man. It was a fun and interesting day, 5-oh and all. Can't wait for our next adventure!

Here's a few of my photos of the same place:

The infamous elephant:

Fanta pull tab soda can...talk about old!

The coolest urinal I have ever seen.

Obligatory potty shot. With a wooden seat at that. First time I'd even heard of toilets having wooden seats!

Do not hump.

I swear I wasn't taking a picture of your ass...

The thought of you guys rolling on the roof is almost as enjoyable as these photos. Good work man and good luck.

Hey, love the photos. I think it's so interesting to see signs of human life at abandonments. It kind of puts into perspective what was once there, like a concrete memory. I'm so glad you took a photo of that sign. I'll remember to think twice before humping any switchmen I may come across. Cheers~

I don't see anything wrong with the photos either. I like how you tell a story with it as well.
I just got busted for my first time the other day, glad it wasn't police that caught me and just a property owner. Great to hear you handled it well!!
(I have not heard the story however and you should either link me or pm me some gnarly info)

Pretty good pictures. You have some awesome stuff in your area! I love that area and want to come back there sometime soon, so I might end up meeting you at some point.

That's shitty luck to get caught so early on in your UE experiences, especially exploring with experienced, cautious people like WarBird and SuchATrap. Where is that story posted?

Dammit, Craig I'm beginning to think you are intentionally spelling my name wrong! LOL

EDIT: linkage for the story, starts there and is added onto through out the thread

There were 8, now there's 7. How long until there are none?

I don't like the idea of taking anything and am kinda disappointed.

how long til they demo the building, like they are the old theater we were going to look at? souvenirs are obviously a personal preference thing, and it depends on circumstances for me

a few years?

There are no plans to demo it so no reason to take anything besides pictures.
