wow...

focusable beam, very VERY bright and long throw. Seems to warm up the batteries when in use. Probably the best $26 flashlight, ever.

The glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Website says 100 lumens...wonder how that compares the to X2000 at dealextreme.com? It doesn't have a lumen rating, but it's damn bright!

I wonder this, by the way, because if it IS brighter...I must have it.

Focusing lights really do seem to be able to throw out a bright beam - a friend of mine uses a focusing LED Lenser that throws remarkably well for its size. Maybe not quite as well as that ultra-tight square X2000 beam, though!

I don't have that light, but had an ultrafire that was rated to 180 lumens but it was a bit brighter, but quickly dropped off. I suspect that the regulation on them is poor, even though they might be brighter they won't last.

This one is hot I'm gonna get another one and a stand, its brighter then the tripod lights I have.

Stands are a good idea - I've been contemplating picking up some of those tiny tripods made for compact cameras. Currently, I use rubber table feet jammed on the end of the light to help it stand up.

Did you have anything particular in mind for stands?

I've been trying to find the right size washer or bolt to tape to a flashlight so i would then be able to screw a tripod mount into it and put it on my smaller, crappier tripod. But now I'm thinking it might be nice to have a pronged clip with a tripod screw thread in it so you can simply jam a light in the clip at whatever angle you want and screw it onto a tripod. Think special tongs for flashlights.

Me goin' legit would be like JarJar on speech therapy.

I like your thinking. Maybe just a nut glued (or welded!) to a piece of flat metal that can then just be rubber-banded to a light? For some reason, I think M8 nuts match a standard tripod, but I might be thinking of something else, there

That would work, too. I was thinking along the lines of a common water bottle holder where the tension of the steel is what held the light in place, but it might just be easier/cheaper to perhaps get a 6-8" length of 1.5" PVC pipe, cut it lengthwise to make a U-shape, and then epoxy a nut to the bottom center. Then you can rubber band any light in there, from mag to to something like a small pistol-style spot.

Edit - Ooh, and 3 Inches of 2" PVC pipe with a butt cap on the bottom could easily become a vertical stand for any regular style flashlight all the way up to a 4D mag.

Edit 2 - I just had a great idea for this and am really excited. I think i will be stopping at the hardware store on the way home .

I find they work well, but obviously you can't angle the things. I have cuphooks ready to screw into the rubber, to let me hang the things up, but I don't think I've ever actually done it for a photo. I did take that approach to hang up a diffused light when I was camping, though.

Couldn't make it to the hardware store tonight and I don't like shopping at Lowe's/Home Depot because they're expensive and don't know shit.

Will keep you updated on my idea, and post pics so ya'll can copycat when I'm done.
