Once again, my phone is alive with the sound of scavengers!
this Portfolio Debt Associates just will not stop fucking my phone. Imagine that these people call me at least once a year trying to collect the same debt that I proved, without shadow of a doubt, was not mine... this time, they have one that was taken care of as far back as 2000!
Does it never end with these fucking people?

scavenger debt collects.
blah!

No. It never ends with these people. It isn't hard to drive any of these nutters into incandescent apoplexy. Stay calm, amp your sarcasm, and have fun.

When I got divorced, I went to change the utilities into my name.

The utility company said they couldn't do it because I had a outstanding balance from my first apartment when I was 17 years old!

Yeah - that was almost 30 years ago; are you f*cking kidding me?

Sister-in-law had some minor outstanding debt from a cell contract...something like $20, and this debt registered on her credit report.

Send a cease & desist letter to them asap. That will stop all communication but mail.

then hop online to either one of the following : trans union/experian/equifax and dispute the debt.

If they cant prove its yours , then it will fall off your credit report.

<===== Deals with credit/loans/financial shit for a daily grind.

already sent the cease and desist letter today... i checked my credit report the first few weeks of the year (New York allows one free credit report by law) and none of what these jokers are talking about appeared on the report.

They came after me before for an outstanding National Grid (then Niagara Mohawk) utility bill from 2000... i sent them a BOX filled with copies of pay stubs, receipts from utilities, car repairs, even sent them a copy of the registrations to all the cars I had while living in Tennessee just to prove that I was not even a resident of New York when the said bill was accrued. I never even lived at the address the bill was for!

This current attempt at extortion... I have a funny feeling I know what it might be about. Back in 1998, I financed my first 'real' computer through Gateway, or at least I thought it was Gateway. I paid the thing off with my income tax that year, moved to Maryland and lost receipts for just about everything from my car to pay stubs/income tax. I told the collectors in 1999 I was not paying $500 for the item a second time. Nothing more was ever said about it until now. They must've used MBNA as a bank back then. But even still, the statute of limitations on a debt such as this is 6 years here in New York... this whatever is going on almost 11 years. Also, how does $700 balloon to $5000? Sorry, but this fat man is not going to be bullied. If you go to www.ripoffreport.com and search for "Portfolia Debt Recovery", the horror stories will make your blood boil. After doing some research online last night, I see that NY's Attorney General has gone full-tilt banzai after these people.

Rock on, big homie, rock on...

So anyways, any other opinions on this topic? Anything I should be aware of or look out for?

Report them to the FTC. Their website has a section dedicated to the 'Fair Debt and Collections Act'.

I also have some Dept collector company calling me 12-15 times a day right now for a debt in a state I was never in. matter of fact it's not even in my name so how the fuck they think they can get me to pay in someone else's name is a total mystery to me. I put them on a silent ring tone so it no longer bothers me, I just look at the phone from time to time to see 9 or 10 missed calls... hehe
