Walther P22 and Kimber Pro Carry II

My lady and i went to the outdoor store today, and the only pistol they had left in the 40 foot long display case was a Walther P22. Not wanting to waste a trip, we checked it out and were amazed how well the gun felt and sat in our hands. It is officially the most comfortable handgun Ive ever held. The only bad thing, which is a big "bad thing", is that its .22lr. Me being a believer that handguns should be for law enforcement, and civilian self defense, i see no point in a .22 handgun. So for those of you who know your Walther handguns, does the Walther P99 feel the same as the P22? It would be great if someone knew the info im looking for. I cant find a P99 anywhere around here, and id like to get one in 9mm.

After the outdoor store, we drove down the street to a pawn shop and checked out their case. They had a ton of handguns, but outrageous prices. There were lots of Taurus's, Colt's, Beretta's, etc. We held the majority of the 9mm and .45acp pistols. The one that i really fell in love with was the Kimber Pro Carry II. The way it fit in my hand, instead of my hand fitting around it, was AWESOME. I like the vertical distance of the slide from my hand. There is no way that the slide will pop back and hit the extra skin between my thumb and index finger. I would buy the Pro Carry II right now if it were a little less expensive. I do see the value in $900 though. I want this pistol, this is THE pistol Ive been searching for in my quest for a handgun.

Side note on the Kimber. I would need a gunsmith to file down the sharp lower part of the grip where it digs into my lower palm. That's an easy fix that wouldn't decrease the value of the gun if a GOOD gunsmith does it for me. The 1911's all dig into the lower palm of my hand.

This is the Walther P22 in the same color we checked out.

The P99 my lady and I are learning about.

The bad boy Kimber i want for my personal outdoor recreation pistol.

Dave-

What price were they asking for the P22? I am interested in getting one but I haven't done any research on pricing yet.

Thanks!

My lady says it was $419. The store is Turner's Outdoorsman in Norwalk, CA. http://www.turners...urners/stores.html

ouch price wise. You can get em online for far cheaper. Check out budsgunshop.

The p22 is a great lil pistol, but can be temperamental on ammo and a bit of a pain to disassemble. Beyond that, great lil gun.

You cant go wrong with a kimber though. Nothing more to say either way on that.

I bought a P22 at a pawn shop for under $200

its a fun gun and theres lots of uses for .22 handguns man I carry a TPH in my motorcycle vest pocket because its tiny and doesnt print through or weigh down one side of my vest

for about 30 yrs I carried a Ruger MarkIV on just about every fishing and hunting trip it had over 10,000 rounds through it and never failed

use the .22 to hone your skills cheaply ten thousand rounds of 9mm would cost a lot more

as someone in the forces, I see huge use for .22lr pistols. load with subsonics, and it sure beats a knife for dealing with sentries...

Where, exactly, would one be dealing with sentries?

if Im not mistaken Army or Navy had a version of the Ruger MKIV or MKV built with a neat little barrel shroud suppressor I think by J A Ciener that didnt add any length to the bbl, had a bolt lock so it became a single shot on demand accounts I read said with <sonic .22LR it made less noise than dropping a pack of cards on the table

Yep.
The Ruger MK series is bomb-proof.
I'd buy no other .22 pistol.
Walther looks cool and so does the Sig, but they fail far more often than the Ruger MKs.

Kimber's guns are tits - but you're paying for a name.
Springfield Armory's .45s are just as well made and function just as well for 20% less.
I ran a pair of Taurus PT1911s for about 18 months until I finally managed to get them to fail . . . the warranty service absolutely sucked.
So, now I am back to SA amd I will likely stick with SA.

on anything where the idea is a raid and not to hold ground. I.e. taking out an enemy artillery location.

or a plausible deniability direct action in an hostile 3rd party nation.

I'll have to agree with you on this comment, Dave!

Sorry to necro-post, but I didn't think it was worth starting a new thread.

I visited a local gun show on Sunday and while I was browsing all the fun in the place I saw a few vendors showing the Walther P22. I picked one up and man... Dave is right! It feels so good sitting in your hand even though it is pretty narrow. I paid $299 +tax. This was cheaper than any of the other vendors selling the same gun. I brought it home and ran a few rounds through it. I really like the feel and handling of this little number! Mine has the 3" barrel and is all black rather than the stainless/black model Dave has pictured above.

In all, if you are looking for a .22LR handgun, this one gets big props from me. I really dig mine.

cant go wrong with the ultra carry. I carry one all the time, awsome piece and have had no jams or malfunctions of any kind. Shot everything from ball to +p through it.
