I can't stand most other foreigners. It's one of the reasons I moved to a distant country (yes, making myself a foreigner in the process) and became a racetraitor. The average white person you meet in Korea is ex-frat scum suffering from culture shock. Oh yeah, and I wouldn't want to take most of them exploring.

Those are some pretty sweeping statements to be making racetraitor. Firstly, many Koreans visit Okpo land, I saw some up there just the other day including a 40 year old ajoshie. It was getting dark and he urged me to leave as he believed "dangerous homeless people" often used the park at night. If you check naver or cyworld, you'll find pictures of Koreans up there.

And sorry to disappoint you, but I was able to find Okpo Land without your assistance as it sits atop a large mountian in the middle of town - it's impossible NOT TO see it and wonder what's up there. Geoje is a tourist haven in summer, I'm sure this is how many foreigners discover the place.

Finally, with regard to the destruction, I think it blows too. I noticed there was much more on my last visit. I go there to take pictures, but I leave everything as I found it. Did you notice the white BBs and broken beer and soju bottles all over the ground. I'd point my finger at these guys first if you're looking for someone to blame.

I'm a little surprised it took you about a month to answer. In your pictures it looks like you got very up close to the smashed ride, and moved pieces around.

Ya, after I saw your post UER.ca made me wait three days before I could reply... and then I kinda forgot about it. I did get close to the pieces but no closer than the shot of you riding the unicorn.

I'm not too familiar with the etiquette and morals of Urban Explores - I don't wanna see the place destroyed either, but I thought that's what generally happens to these abandoned areas, perhaps the destruction is even part of their appeal. Is the idea that it be a natural destruction from the passing of time?

Most of us prefer natural decay to vandalism. A few of us will even go pretty far to preserve sites. I'll take your word for it that you didn't smash up the ride, though you should understand the way you're posed looks like that's what happened. So you were able to track back to this link here? Now I only hope those other people who were messing with the duck heads make their way over here.

Incidentally, most of the photos I've found on Korean websites of Okpo Land tend to be my own stuff rehosted.

If you're worried about vandalism or leaving the sites entirely as intact as you found them, climbing into rusting rides and pushing them around really fast while a bunch of people hang off it probably isn't increasing the longevity of said abandonments.

And saying you're the reason people found these places is rather brazen.

To soothe your worried mind, if you're so concerned about being the handout king to your fellow foreigners**, stop posting long-winded narratives on UER with all the detail you do about most sites you find.

Seems a simple enough solution, no?

My photos of Okpo are definitely directly responsible for more people visiting there. Up until now I haven't really had to worry about any kind of security concerns, but now there are a ton of people out there who track down sites and do stuff like write graffiti or break stuff.

And I'd say that pushing that ride around caused it no harm.

I thought it was great that my main man Logtec got in there and gave them a good gretz-ing. But they definitely deserve a stiffer punishment. Like a severe beating.

I didn't really see the point of going after them, mainly because those pictures are from so long ago. Extra kudos to comatosed for standing up for himself, if he comes back here and reads this.
