dollar store torches..

So I promised a while back that I would not pick up anymore cheap lights as they just end up getting trashed and they really don't like being in damp environments. I found a 7 led special that actually had LUBED o rings for $3. It was so bright and the build quality was great I went back and got the rest.

So a few days ago I decided to get a headlamp as I had trashed mine a while back and needed a new one. I had been using my petzl ELITE (which actually is a back up/emergency light) but I thought I should just get a cheap alternative. I was not impressed with petzl's headlamps at $40 with a 35 lumen output so I picked up the Princeton Tec 'Fuel'. This thing was a PITA to load batteries into..I sliced my hand pretty badly. Anyways it has a nice beam at half the cost of the similar line by petzl and it was waterproof. Tonight at dollerama I saw a headlamp and kind of gawked at it but my curiosity brought me back and i got one.

THE DAMN THING HAD A BRIGHTER AND WHITER BEAM then the $23 Fuel!

Run out and get one! But leave a few more for the rest of us light junkies.

I'll do it in a few days as I just got a new camera.

It was found in the same store as this!

I have one of these. They are a-ok for small drains. I never got much throw out of them, though.

its called dollarama here in Canada. The package it was in seems to be 'branded' for them.

I think its the same type of deal. They have all sorts of oddities. I found a heap of cast iron over sized hooks that are usually $30 at restoration hardware for $1.25. They were slightly defective, but I marked the holes off for each (as they were not even) and voila! Another was some toy cams that go for like $40 on ebay, for $1!

I got one of those headlamps for Christmas 2 years ago, only mine was made by Totes. It remains the WORST light that I have ever encountered. The construction quality was horrible. It had a cheap plastic battery magazine, and 2 of the 3 springs broke off when I put the batteries in. The head strap was so small that it gave me a headache. The lamp portion broke off from the strap as I put the thing on my head, and then it fell into pieces. One of the leds were burned, and the rest looked as though they had been soldered on by a blind infant with no fingers.

Summation: WORST LIGHT EVER. NOT WORTH $2! DO NOT BUY!

Sometimes I wonder if my obsession with flashlights led to my interest in Urban Exploration, or conversely, if my
interest in exploration led to my flashlight obsession

I rigged mine to my bike. A thief can now take a wack at that since my light was stolen not to long ago.

Mine is also really bright, but I think the build quality, and the types of LED's used in these things varies greatly.
