to top off a fantastic year of being punched in the face by life - my brother swerved to miss a deer last night and ended up crushing his elbow, nose, knee, broke vertabrae in his back and bruised his pancreas. luckily they airlifted him out of the podunk hospital into one of the best trauma centers in the midwest.

no this isn't the brother that has cancer, this is another brother. luck abounds.

if anything useful can be learned from all of this - never swerve to miss a deer. they say try to stop and keep control of the car. if you hit the fucker, that's what the airbag is for.

my brother was wearing his seatbelt and the roads were dry too...he went flying off into a ditch and then into the air.

anywho - just hit the deer folks. i need a xanax

Aw, sorry to hear about that lady.

You're actually supposed to -speed up- if there's no way to avoid the deer. Speeding up tips the front bumper/hood of your car down and makes it more likely the deer will either be thrown to the side or roll over the car.

Unlike the poor bastards to try to break, end up with the front nose of the car too high up, and get a thrashing, kicking deer through their windshield.

Before my lady and i started driving cross country a couple of years ago, i told her i would never try to avoid an animal (or person) in the area of my car. Sucks for whatever/whoever gets hit, but im not risking my family and property.

Hopefully your brother has kick ass insurance!
