The colour is probably more of an issue if you're mixing different light sources. You don't want your LED white balance adjustment to screw up the output from streetlights or something.

Sorry for stealing someone elses thread...

metawaffle: Can you recommend something for around $30 Australia? Same requirements (light painting and general UE)

Hi, BJenkins!

Well, AU$30 in the supermarket doesn't yield too much, and gets you nowhere on the Australian sites like ledtorches.com.au and torchworld.com.au, so for an LED torch, I'd probably just order something from DealExtreme. I assume you want to use AA batteries, and nothing silly like CR123As. So, say US$20 or under, to allow for our ailing currency?

Ultrafire WF-606A (Q5 version)
http://www.dealext...tails.dx/sku.14909

This one has a reputation for being bright for a torch running on AAs. I had an older version of this, and it was good, but it ran through a pair of batteries in about an hour.

Romisen RC-I3
http://www.dealext...etails.dx/sku.7503

Romisen make decent cheap torches - this one isn't as bright as the one above, but will run much longer on two AA batteries. I have one of these, and use it with one of the Fenix diffusers I've rambled on about elsewhere.

Romisen RC-N3

Again, not as bright as the Ultrafire up the top there, but this was my favourite torch for a while (though I mostly used it in its 1xCR123A mode, rather than 2xAA). It throws a bit further than the RC-I3 by virtue of its wider head and larger reflector. Only thing is, apparently this is now a multi-mode torch, so my experience may not be entirely relevant anymore.

I have to say, though, that out of those three, it's the RC-N3 I like using the best. (Or, I would, if I hadn't spent lots of money on more expensive torches)

A friend of mine just bought one, and got the three-mode version, which has Low, High, and Strobe - I like it better than my single mode.

Well, it arrived today.

Phwoar, it's awesome.

I've been playing with it in the office all morning, and can't wait to go and try it out.

The multimode, which is great, but I don't understand why the strobe is so fast...
