| | | Awesome photos Shadow! My grandfather served for years on US diesel subs from the end of WWII to about two years after the Korean War. Is this a diesel or a nuke you toured?

| | | Yeah, that's a pretty cool sub - my friend and I went in it a year ago (we were sitting across the street at a pub in a hotel and said what the hell) - that thing is amazingly small. I especially liked the beds that were above the launch tubes. My friend figured the best way to get through the hatches - you have to grab the top and just swing your body through like they do in the movies. If I can find my photos I'll add them to this thread. The pirate ship nextdoor was lame though (it is cool that they used it in that movie "master and commander" though).

| | | There's that one US diesel in the SF Bay Area...The USS Pampanito. I may make a run to it now and pay the who knows how much fee for touring it. Also, if you wanna talk about small ships, look at the canoes the German's used in WWII. Stand on the bow, arms spread out, and you were wider than the beam of the ship!

| | | Has anyone checked out the Scorpion Class sub in Long Beach? Want to know if it's worth the trip.

My friends' dad served on that sub in WWII. It's a nice one to see.

| | | The Pampinito is more or less operational. They can still run the diesels and fire torpedos. Every time they dry dock it more systems are put on line.
