| | | It needs to stop. We can't afford this, and it's not like any of the big 3 would be able to pay off a loan if we gave one because giving them money will not make anyone want to buy their POS cars. Sorry Sam, but the market has moved on and America's car manufacturers haven't. What this country needs is a full scale depression. Nobody knows how to save money anymore, nobody knows how to parent anymore, we need to learn to do things right and it's to late to learn the easy way. Free healthcare? What a joke. There is no such thing as a "free lunch," why would there be free healthcare. The opportunity cost of implementing free healthcare would outweigh the benefits. If we didn't get raped in taxes that fund medicare/medicaid/socialsecurity, we would be able to afford healthcare. Sure some people wouldn't spend that money on healthcare, but that would be their problem, and their stupidity would kill them. And no, this is not for the politics board. I'm truly pissed off and not in the mood to discuss this, only to share.

Oh and let's talk about the last government auto bailout in the 1980's... Chrysler Corporation repaid that loan ahead of schedule with interest. And no, this is not for the politics board. Ok, let's discuss then. Posted by Samurai
well, i'm sure the millions put out of work will care greatly that you don't give a shit about them.
| This is America, also known as the home of the free market, capitalism, all that great stuff. If you're going to live here in America, you probably have to work here too. That means working for an American company, most likely in the private sector. The purpose of our government is to maintain a free market with as little regulation as possible. That means that company you work for might not be there someday. That's a risk you have to take. Period. If you want to be guaranteed a job, this country is not for you. If you want to fight for a job, this country is for you. It's not the government's job to force a company to remain competitive. If the company chooses not to do so, that's their problem and they will go out of business. Posted by Samurai Oh and let's talk about the last government auto bailout in the 1980's... Chrysler Corporation repaid that loan ahead of schedule with interest. | That was one company, and the circumstances were very different. The big 3 have decades of catch-up to do in order to contend with the modern world, and their proposed plans are not very promising. You can't just throw money at a problem and expect it to go away. If we let the market completely tank now, it will be a lot better than bailing it out and tanking 5-10 years down the road.

| | | Posted by Caligula Not only would the car companies go under, But... The cloth companies that provide seats for the cars would. | There are other car companies on this planet, hope you realize that. People will still buy cars, they just won't have an American logo on them. The tire companies that provide tires for them would fail. | Again, why? I will still be buying tires for my GM, my BMW, and my volvo if the big 3 go under or not. The companies that do the little computers inside the vehicles would close. Etc.. | Again, other people manufacture cars too. When you really think about it, Alot of people would be losing jobs.
| Yes. It's a free market. Go read up on Margaret Thatcher and Friedrich Von Hayek. History proves my point, and disproves yours.

| | | Bailout the car companies, then the airlines will want cash too, so will the trains, farmers, TV stations, Hollywood, hookers, artists, dog walkers, etc. It's gotta be a bailout for everyone. I'd prefer it if those billions were given to taxpayers. $300K per person. If that taxpayer decides to buy a GM, then great. If not, let GM fail.
