A Weekend Of No Home Pt. 3

Now...this is where the story takes a terrible turn.

Nicholas wanted to show me the bad side of the streets. The darker side. He collected some money, about 10 dollars, and looked me in the eye.

"Walk quickly. Stay right behind me. Don't look at anyone, and if someone comes up to talk to you, shake your head no. If they keep talking, tell them that you are set."

"Am I gonna be in danger?"

"Just stay near me."

Now I'd been doing a bit of drinking, and my senses weren't all there. Looking back on it, I shouldn't have gone, but I needed to know. I had to see it for myself.

I followed him at a quick pace as we made our way to a dangerous street.

We walked into a large group of people that were standing around, all of them shaky. Their eyes screamed danger.

"Hey buddy, you want some?" I just shook my head. Over 20 people came after me to sell me their drug.

Nicholas bought 10 dollars worth of crack, a broken test tube, and some scotch brite. This got the attention of three other addicts that had been hanging around, waiting for someone to but some.

Nicholas walked over to a curb where ten or so men were smoking crack right there in the open. He sat down and they all shared the crack rock.

It was one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen, but at least I have seen the other side. I've seen the part of the street that most people never see.
