| | | Couldn't I say the same of automobiles or the right to procreate? All the losers from my highschool are now cops . . . all the best and brightest ran like hell from RustBelt USA. Guns reduce crime in the West - period. Gun ownership has been on the rise just as crime has been on the decline. Lawfully armed citizens are LESS violent and are LESS prone to be victims of crime. A concealed permit holder? 1000x less likely to commit a crime. Why must we debate this endlessly? Really? What's REALLY at issue here? Posted by jukebox fuckup well.. I cannot say anything about you. I can say that the majority of people that I went to high school with are royally fucked up and I cringe at the idea of them owning firearms. Same deal with college, now that I think about it. And at my job! Not that I can do anything about this, but I would never trust most of them with a car, let alone a firearm.

| cars & procreation- absolutely. To say gun reduces crime is a bit tentative, given that existing evidence is mixed. My psychology textbook (Berger, 2008) attributes soaring suicide rates to increasing access to lethal weapons post-1970, as well. I recall reading a study where violent criminals admitted that, while 'selecting' a target, they are deterred if they have reason to believe that the target is armed. Conversely, one study (Operation Ceasefire, http://en.wikipedi...peration_Ceasefire) does conclude that agency correspondence (ie. the feds working together with local authorities) can significantly reduce violent crime by confiscating illegal firearms. I would consider the main issue to be enforcement, as in better enforcement of existing laws have been demonstrated through Operation Ceasefire (which has been replicated in different cities) as an effective means to reduce violent crime. Why don't I have a gun? Well.. I will not purchase a gun until I go to the range several times with friends that own guns and know how to work them. I have no interest in owning a gun until I feel adequate in my abilities to handle one. Not to mention the self defense laws in PA are a bit ass backwards. So I have been told, PA is supposed to adopt the castle doctrine soon

Gun users have small dicks, apparently. Posted by Nvr2loud
Well, if you have to register your gun at purchase, they can keep a balistics sample and if your gun is ever used in a crime, it can be traced easier.
| But those marks change over time and follow the barrel, not the gun and can be changed. Posted by cdevon1200 sorry for bringing up a very old thread... but. as i have a ccw and carry a big fucking gun everyday, having it is like having a seatbelt- strap it on every time you drive- and hope to god you never need it.
| That's the truth. no harm in target shooting though ;) Anyway, don't mind me picking through old posts. "Gun Control" like many other government programs, looks to my ignorant eyes like "Don't let people I'm afraid of have guns," rather than "limit gun ownership to responsible people." I'd prefer that gun use be taught in school than have it be either demonized or have kids taught that "Cool guys carry guns in their waistband." Anyway, there's a lot of places gun control could go - it needn't be literal gun confiscation when everyone who bothered to dot every i and cross every t dies in a few decades. But I don't want most guns to be illegally owned by people with plans for them. /ignorant rant
