Tucson scouting - 11/2006

I got a few free hours during my Thanksgiving vacation in Tucson to try to follow up on some stuff I had seen on the freeway driving into town. These were in the Marana/Oro Valey area.

After some backtracking (including driving the wrong way down a shoulder, heh) due to the way the frontage roads work out there, I finally found where I was going. But by the fourth "KEEP OUT" sign and especially due to the proximity to the TEP power plant, I elected to be a gigantic wimp and back off. Gmaps show a handful of houses in this spot, and my photos from the frontage road show that there should be something worth seeing for anyone braver than me.

Not far away was what appeared to be possibly an old cotton gin. I drove around quite a bit, got familiar with the area, and then later with Gmaps figured out the approach. Now I just need to get back down there. This place is right alongside some fields and also looks to have what might be still-active farming quonset huts on the property, so I'd think that there's a good chance that someone from the nearby farm would come by to see what the heck was going on.

Pictures to follow.
