I have seen pictures of when it was in its prime, and i see the pictures now, but even now, after all real life is gone, it is still a beautiful place, and i bet if it ever gets rebuilt, it could be a big money maker, as long as they keep the original design and try not to modernize it too much

Most of the pics were just of the buildings. The shops were locked up tight, but strange, 1/4 mile up the beach is prime real estate with a civil war reenactment going on.

There is something magical about Asbury Park, even in its present condition.

The $1.2 billion redevelopment plan for the Oceanfront area is being finalised now but there probably won't be much action until next year, although the Boardwalk south of Convention Hall has already been ripped up, ready for replacement.

More info about the redevelopment and some past history here:

I should get out there, I thought every inch of the jersey shore was either owned by some rich bastards or in front of resorts already

Thanks for the compliment, the camerera does pretty well in good lighting. I just noticed however a lot of noise added by the forums resizer. They were taken at 2mp, reduced to under 100k.

The NY Times ran an article today on Asbury Park's future... you'll need an account on their site to read this, but it's free to register. I think that it becomes archived (meaning that you have to pay to see it) after a week or so, so you'll want to look it up soon.

Why aren't the two Asbury Park entries combined?

Now that you mention it, I guess these should all be under Asbury park. I didn't want to include this under Lisa's post, which is strictly Casino and Palace amusements. Moving the location now. Thanks for the link.

unfortunately that is where AP is headed. Its funny how this place has evolved. The "Asbury Partners" (sounds super shady to me) now own the entire waterfront and have imminent domain rights to develop something like three to four blocks back from the waterfront. Access to these buildings is getting harder and harder as these "partners" clamp down on security. I have noticed an increase in police patrols as well. So if you are planning an Asbury adventure (something i must reccomend you do if you can) I'd do it soon. Its amazing, definitly one of my favorite places in the world. It is also the first spot I ever UE'd so it holds a special spot in my heart. Oh as a quick aside... This saturday 4/24 there is a big reunion party for those who helped build/worked/ skated/ or just hung out at Casino when the skatepark was there. Its at the Odd Fellows Lounge and there are a couple of bands and such.
