It's been ages!
entry by cloak-and-dagger
3/19/2006 10:10 PM

I mean to do things, anything. Go out and just use the ol' camera! But There is NO time! Working full-time takes all the energy I have to do anything. I come home from work, and I'm exhausted! How do all of you cope? How is it that you all make time to explore with working or schooling and such? With living another life? How do you make time for the explorer in you to be happy? I am most interested in hearing a response. Anything; ideas, examples, anything that will help me. I'm so stressed with life itself, how will I make time for anything extra?

Responses appreciated,

C&D

In response to Axle, UE tends to get my blood flowing, what with all the increased adrenaline. I don't think that'll work.

Doing something like climb into an abandoned / active anything....... Makes you appreciate how [un]important most of the stuff you do is. Especially when there is that chance of falling to your death.

Finding time...... If your lucky you can combine dates with exploring. Thats always fun. Other options........
Exploring in passing - hit something quick, 1/2 hour on your way home or driving somewhere.
Show up sleep deprived in work? Often you don't have to be fully intelligent at work, and you can show up only mostly there.
Quit!

combine dates with exploring

Hey well I like that idea. But I'm not into dating right now.

*sigh* I guess I'll have to wait until I establish a routine of some sort. When that happens I'm sure I'll feel secure enough to go out on my own and make some sort of discovery. Until then, I'll have to read about explorations on here.

Sleep is a crutch ha! I sometimes amaze myself with how little sleep I need. It really helps having some friends to motivate you to go out. Seriously Edmonton has some good stuff. Mindhacker is right, when you do something even slightly nutty it makes everything else sorta fade away. You get a real feeling of accomplishment afterward. Sometimes it carries me right through that long work shift the day after. Good to see you back!

Hi Cloak, it's been a while ;)

I schedule exploring into my life. I prefer solo day expeditions so that has some benefits: 1) You're on YOUR time. 2) You don't have to sacrifice meeting up with people at night to explore (although I've done that too). 3) By exploring during the day, I find I can get better photos.

Not much help I know...

Hey,

Glad to hear you're still alive-thought maybe you got in somewhere you couldn't escape from. As far as UE goes, sometimes the best place to go is a nice new condo unit. They're so easy to get into, they seem to always be on the edge of something and are usually the tallest structure in the neighbourhood, and you know they aren't going to fall apart. That's my bit...low risk, good views, quiet.

Paul

It's very, very hard for me to find the time. I'm lucky in that my work allows me to do a bit, and sometimes I can free up half a day to zip somewhere.

There are some tricks you can try. One is to do some preplanning, so if you find yourself in the area of a sight you know about then it's just a matter of turning the wheel and opening the door. Another trick is to just pick a day; "Ok, in exactly twelve days, on Saturday the 32nd, I'm going to go and hit X." Then you find that you're motivated a bit more because you've got something to look forward to, plus you can schedule your life around the event rather than the other way around.

One last thing to consider is why you're exhausted at the end of the day. Maybe fixing some diet/exercise/work habits stuff can free up some energy.... not that I can talk much, as after a day of work and family, I'm totally cooked and can barely keep my eyes open.

Some very good suggestions, thank you BLinAZ. I don't know about this talk of the 32nd though. I'm pretty depressed right now, my mouse Decartes passed on last night. Sigh. I could look into some things to get my mind clear. But UGH FINALS!! Yeah. Maybe after them.

Life shouldn't be this busy.

Oh, right, well there's no answer for finals, sadly. Other than just surviving them.

And a tip o' the coffee mug to you, Descartes, we hardly knew ye... actually, didn't know ye at all. But may you (ye?) now be resting peacefullly in a land fabricated entirely of cheese and scented wood chips.

I don't know if I mentioned this, but Anselm died too. Same day. They were sisters. And now I found out that my mom has lung cancer. Seems everything is dying.

Sigh. I think I am depressed.

Everything dies at some point or another, and this will only make me appreciate her, and maybe it'll also make her life a lot more meaningful to her. This is probably a blessing in disguise, as bad as that sounds.

Thanks for your consideration though, much appreciated.
