Montgomery Plaza

Again: There I was, just minding my own business eating a sandwich I had just bought. I was in front of Montgomery Plaza. The place appeared to be in the middle of renovation, and the bottom floor is obviously going to be a huge store front. They have Christmas lights between the two sections of the building, and it is very pretty to be sure, but anyways...

I was just looking at the building, eating my sandwich when I just notice that there is a parking garage in 1 section. No gates, no gaurd, nothing! Luckily I have my camera with me so gobble up my sandwich, snap some outside shots, and run up the ramp before anyone could see me. The place is pretty neat. It is similar to the TMP warehouse in a number of ways. The support structure is the same, which leads me to believe it was built about the same time. The building itself is kind of odd, and it does not really posses any symetry, though it is roughly two large rectangles with a several "bridges" spanning the two at various points. My guess is that it was a factory, or warehouse. But with so many large support columns, it just seems kind of inneficient, and difficult but I am sure they dealt with it. I dunno, it just feels very industrial. The floors are all empty, like the TMP warehouse, and the architecture does not really vary much. The first 2 floors, not including the storefront, which I did not explore was basically the parking garage, though I don't think it was intented to be that. Probably a loading/unloading dock or something to that effect. Anyways, I snapped what few pictures of interest there were and looked for some stairs. There were elevators, but they were not working, in spite of the building having electricity, but I will get to that later. I walk up 6 or so flights of stairs as I want to get on the roof first because it is cold, and getting dark. It is maybe 5:30, or 6 when I start exploring, and it has been raining all day. I get off on the wrong floor. Just below the roof, but no matter. It is beautiful. The windows are massive, and they all can be opened, which seemed nice, and lended to its possibly being a factory. In each of the corners, there were very small balconies with awfully nice doors. Stained Cherry Wooden ones. Very nice. I stepped out trying to avoid being seen, and snapped a few shots. I walked around, crossed the indoor bridge to the other side. Same thing. Finding the stairs to the roof was kind of difficult because not all the elevators and staircases go up to the roof appearently. I could not figure out where they housed all the elevator equipment and motors, I guess they just have not installed it yet, but even then, I could not find any place where they could. But the elevators are there, and brand new ones no less so I am sure they have something in mind. I finally find a staircase that leads me up to the roof. This is another reason I like to get on roofs of buildings. I feel like I conquered the building, like I climbed Mt. Everest. Roofs are the best in my opinion. I take a few pictures of the airconditioning equipment which is unsurprisingly ubquitious. I take a bunch of skyline pictures as they view is rather nice, but not spectacular. There are also some big neon signs that say "Montgomery Plaza" on several sides, and they are something of a landmark I guess. I see them all the time, and they are pretty enough. I check out a few of the rooms on the roof. Some are locked, some are not, but they are all the same thing. They house big pipes for the air conditioning, not elevator equipment like I thought. I also check out the AC unit itself, which is of course massive. It was neat to see how it worked, not quite like I expected... Can't really explain though. Those fans were huge though. Maybw 2 meters in diameter? I spent maybe an hour on the roof, and at this point it was getting colder, and wetter. I head back down a few more floors, and take some more pictures. The floors are all more or less the same so nothing new or exciting, but still fun none-the-less. By the time I get done, it is finally dark, and I am surprised to see that the lights on the bottom 2 floors are on, but I don't think anything of it. I go back upstairs to take some more pictures from the balcony now that it is dark. It also just so happens that this floor has the biggest windows, and lots of outside lights. The whole entire floor is amazing, and surprisingly bright, but still dark. I never needed a flashlight the whole time I was there, and I left around 9:30. I am disappointed because my camera keeps on wanting to use the flash, and I don't know how to get a longer exposure time, or any of that other stuff. I do now though, so I will definitely be going back. Around this time I decide to go home. I go to the 2nd or 3rd floor where the lights are on, and take some pictures since it looks kind of neat with the lights on now. Then I freeze, I see on the opposite wall what looks like someone with a flashlight, and I think I hear sounds... I spend the next half hour avoiding what turned about to be a big sheet of plastic wrap or something stuck in a window, flapping in the wind, in front of a light. I go up several floors, rather noisily to see if anyone was down there. I look for copcars, and everything checks out alright. I go down, discover the piece of plastic, and curse, and thank it at the same time. It was fun, but annoying to find out what it was. I am about to leave, when I discover that the second section of the building has a considerably lower section with roof access, albeit nothing interesting. Just a modest view, and a lots of rocks. The whole time I had been pretty... reckless I guess. I only made a small attempt to hide myself, and even then, not all the time. A bunch of people probably saw me, but I did not care. I was almost done anyways. I go back down, all the way down where appearently there was a very nice heater. That thing was really, really warm, which I appreciated. But wow, was that thing warm... Anyways, the heater was on the ground level with the store fronts, but all of these staircases all had "exit" doors which looked suspiciously like the fire escape variety. I did not want to try my luck, and even then, I would have been even more visible, suspicous, and everthing else. I could tell from the outside that these did not contain anything interesting anyways. I went back up to the garage. Took some shots of, and from the outside bridges of the rest of the building, walked out, and congratulated myself on a job well done.
