That Building That I Went To
entry by Mellon_Collie

One day, after years of driving past it, I noticed this one building was abandoned. Naturally, I was obligated to go check it out, no less, with my newfound birthday camera. I got up early that morning, which says something on account I don't normally wake up till around noon. I wanted to go before downtown got busy, and I thought the lighting would be nice.

Getting in was awfully easy, just slide through the temporary fence that has probably been there for years. The building has a number of odd features. The building itself is a 2 story... I think It is built into a hill, and wraps around itself sort of, it is difficult to explain. Anyways, part of it used to be a storefront, and the other part a autoshop. The floor above the storefront was completely gutted, and there was no ceiling at all which made for some spectacular shots with the sun coming up and all. After taking a bunch of pictures, and freezing my hands off, I went down a spiral staircase into the storefront. There was some beautiful hexagonal tile, which I eagerly took pictures of. You must understand that I have a hexagonal tile fetish... There was not too much down there, mostly refuse. I spied on a guy who was waiting on a bus foe while I waite for him to get on the bus so I could take more pictures. I did not have to wait long. I went to a nearby door which turned out to be a really good place to shoot. In front of me on the property was a large, overgrown field, and behind that was a tall building in downtown. I lied down and shot the building growing up from the grass. I was very honestly proud of that shot, and several others that day, which again says something I think, because normally, I am my worst critic, and never let anyone complement my work, which is a terrible thing I know, but I digress. After that I went into a backroom, which I think was underneath the autoshop. This room was also odd in a number of ways. It had this metal triangle sticking out on the outside wall with a window with glass one inch thick. All the closets in this room also had glass like that, and there were also 2 bathrooms there. In one closest was probably 100 unbroken flourescent lights, and the other one was STUFFED full of fiberglass insulation. Somehow, I got some fiberglass on my tongue, which was annoying. In the very back of this room was a HUGE safe. Maybe 8x8 feet? On the walls of it was written something about Haltom School District, and another one. The papers were well preserved, but ambigious. Property Tax records or something so it seemed. After that I checked out the garage which lacking some walls and windows, and traffic was beginning to build up around me, but I just played it cool and kept taking pictures. I saw a police car, but it was driving in the opposite direction. Emu had some work up here, but otherwise the site was pristine. Either way, I did not really mind because I like emus work. The only thing of real interest in the garage was a large plastic, or fiberglass steeple in the middle of the floor. Some clothes were strewn about, but it did not look like anyone lived here. Certainly not a very good place to anyways on account of being in plain sight. Anyways, about this time my I had to replace my batteries, and I filled up my card with 250 plus pictures, I had seen everything, and traffing was really starting to get busy since the Stock Show is going on, and it was Saturday morning. It was a very neat site, and I got some awesome pictures, especially for my first time taking pictures. Now I definitely need to go back to all those other sites...

P.S. On my way to the place that morning, I saw a sewer crew with an auger. I wanted to talk to them, but I had business to attend to
