Formerly costing more than 10,000$, the Sun Java Enterprise Suite is now available free of charge for personal use (amongst other things).

Not for the feint of heart.

Warning to those that use this without knowing enough to configure and deploy, say; Active Directory/Netware, Apache2, Groupwise/Lotus - A novice could easily trash his system with something like the Identity Management Suite or leave himself wide open to security holes with the other servers...

Other than that, this is fantastic software, and I encourage everyone to try it, but be careful if you're new .

Sun is not only opening up the entire SPARC architecture to the public so you'll soon see the prices SINK.

But also, and this gave me such a geek-gasm that body liquids started secreting out of my body at every single crack and pore, they just unveiled their new T1 processor.

http://www.sun.com...SPARC-T1/index.xml

"The UltraSPARC T1 processor with CoolThreads technology offers up to ***EIGHT*** 4-way multithreaded cores... Typical processor power consumption of 72 watts, delivering 32 simultaneous threads... Four on-chip DDR2 channels delivering 25.6 GB/sec. processor-to-memory bandwidth... All cores connected to memory and the I/O subsystem through a 134-GB/sec. crossbar switch... High-bandwidth shared 4-Bank 3-MB L2 cache... 3.1 GB/sec peak effective bandwidth on JBUS."

Hear that? Throw your fucking 32-sever computer rack away, this single fucking chip can outperform it.

And you can buy them, this instant, from the Sun Store. A 1.0Ghz Sparc T1 (8 core, 4 thread each) with 8gigs DDR2-533 ram and 4 10/100/1000 cards is only 7k$US on their site... Oh God do I wish I won the lotto .

(Anyone ever notice I *LOVE* this company?)
