Exploration #: 1.0003-1-5 "Thwartation"

Exploration #: 1.0003-1-5
Location: North Texas Steel Company - "Worth Division"
Date: Friday November 11, 2005
Time: 10:30pm - 11:00pm

I saw this place driving on my way home from work and noted that it looked rather unoccupied. I got off the freeway and headed back towards giving it a quick look-over, taking note of the name, and heading back on my way home. Traffic sucked, so I stayed on the access roads, which eventually stop giving access to the freeway and go through through an industrial park which unfortunately, bore no abandoned fruit.

I went home and googled the name of the place but that bore no fruit. (I later found out that I incorrectly remembered the name) I decided to head out at 10:30 which I rationalized would be about when the cops are still giving speeding tickets, starting to pull over drunks, and maybe changing shifts.

I parked in relatively hidden doctors office or something across the street. The perimeter was fenced with barbed wire, but only on three sides, as one side of the building faced a creek, and was a little too easy to circumnavigate. The whole place is shaped kind of like a capital "L" but with a disproportionately smaller foot, and I immediately noticed that the lights were on in that part. I was in what appeared to be where the stored most of their stock, and there was a huge metal sliding door that was probably 5x7 meters. It kept on opening and closing in the wind, but a little too unnaturally, and I got spooked and left. When I left, I also noticed that they had a nice new, shiney blue dumpster where the lights were on. Unfortunately the parking lot is on the other side where the lights were on, and separated where I was by another fence, but not a barbed wire one so I was not able to see if anyone was there. However, satellite imagery of the location did show that the parking lot was parallel with some train tracks, which I figure probably meant that it was not fenced. Unfortunately, this is the line that the TRE runs on, so it is pretty busy, and there is not an easy way to get to it.

Since then I found the address, and the proper name, and I plan on going back maybe later at night on a Sunday, and if possible getting in via the train tracks. Also, I noticed that while it has no outside lights of its own. The floodlights from surrounding businesses provide enough light that if someone drives down the street in the wrong direction, I will be pretty easy to spot. All the more reason to try and get in from the train tracks.

Also, down the road is drain, but it alternately switches between drain, and unnavigable creek like most drains around here, and I did not feel like doing that at night, especially because I was so skittery. And across the street is a grain silo lol, but it looks rather secure, and the bottom floors/offices look like they are being used as a auto-parts warehouse, in addition to being in a bad part of town.
