Exploration #: 1.0004-1-15
Location: Abandoned Public Pool/Park
Date: Saturday November 12, 2005
Time: 12:00pm - 2:00pm

I went to go check out an abandoned public pool and park my friend had taken pictures of about a year earlier to do the same. I ignored the new looking "Park Closed" sign and lock and climbed over the fence, followed the road which was covered in wood chips for some reason. The first of many bad omens. The wood chip road quickly turned into an really old paved road after going down a hill, where I came upon a cleared area that had been bulldozed. I continued down the hill and found what appeared to remnants of a pool shell. I continued following the road, where I came another clearing that looked like it had been bulldozed, and corner of branches, concrete and other refuse sat in large piles in various of the park. Kind of like a kid who cleans his room by making huge piles of his toys, and just puts them in the corners. There were a couple of old foundations, and a large concrete pipe that housed a large valve for something. presumably for the pools and park. I trail-blazed my way through various parts of the park in search of the pools, but all I could find were a bunch of concrete picnic tables that were sinking in the ground in obscure locations, and I thought that they all looked rather sad. It was also ridiculously hot. Of course, this is Texas in the middle of November. I had brought a jacket with me, because at the time even it was a cloudy day, and while perhaps still a little too warm for jackets, I always wear a jacket. I never really took it off though because I had to use it to protect myself from all the thorns and burrs that had overgrown the area, so by the time I left I was very hot, sweaty, and dirty. The whole time I could hear construction equipment on the other side of the what was probably the original fence for the park. I probably looked, and sat around the park for about 2 hours, and I finally called it quits and went home feeling more than a little bummed out.
