Level 3 FAQ

  • What is L3?
L3 stands for Level 3. All viewers of uer.ca have a Level.
Level 0 means you're not logged in.
Level 1 means you just signed up for the site but Avatar-X did not approve your registration yet.
Level 2 means you've got approval to access the site.
Level 3 means you've got access all areas on this site (except for private boards).

  • What does L3 *mean*?
The fact that you have L3 means that the administration of this site trusts you enough to give you access to locations that have "sensitive" information in them. With sensitive we by no means mean sensitive to terrorism, we're more thinking in the way of vandalism. If the location of a forgotten building in New York City would become public, it would soon be spray painted all over, vandalized and/or looted. We want to prevent that. That's why some locations are marked to be only accessible to people with L3

  • How does one become L3?
Someone else who is L3 has to recommend someone to the administration, and provide some information on what basis that person should become L3.

Then the person recommended has to complete the form and tell why he/she should be promoted L3. This doesn't have to be a whole essay, just prove you've explored some and refer to other explorers, that'll usually do.

The other way is to request L3, which you can do once you're member for a month and you'll have only one chance to do so per month. Generally, it's better to be recommended though, because then you have someone vouching for you.

  • How do I become L3?
Get someone who is L3 to recommend you.
There are two good ways to do this.
    - Meet up with an (L3) explorer (or a group) and go explore something. Then at the end, subtly ask someone to recommend you.
    - Post some pictures of your explorations in the Photography forum or your local forum. If the quality is good enough, usually a recommendation will follow.
Another way is to get on the Chat and befriend some members there or make posts on the fora (forums). You still have to prove your exploring capabilities, but you gain trust that way.

  • What can I do to speed up becoming L3?
Other than offering sex to one of the mods (they come in all flavours) I couldn't think of anything better than exploring and showing on the fora that you explore.
What will not help is donating (although it is appreciated), begging (which is not appreciated at all) or flaming (which will help in becoming L0 again).

  • But there is freedom of information, I have the right to become L3!
No, there's not! The whole of this site is Avatar-X's possession, and he owes nothing to you. Even if you donated, you did that just as a gesture and you didn't buy one months right to this site or similar.

  • The whole L3 thing is elitist!
No, it's not elitist, it's preserving. This site has information that we don't want to fall in the hands of certain people (taggers, vandals, and paranoid security people). That's why we ask for some grounds on which we can trust you with this information.
Yes, in a way it is elitist. We only want people we trust in our midst. Be happy we give you the chance to become a L2 member to prove your trustworthiness. We could have made this a "recommend-only" site where you couldn't even access anything but the front page.

  • Don't you trust me?
We have had some incidents in the past, and it's well known that you can't just trust anyone on the internet. So the fact that you're L2 means we don't have enough proof yet to fully trust you. But we already do trust you a bit, because we promoted you from L1 to L2. Just give us some proof that you're part of OKOP (Our Kind Of People) and you'll be L3.

  • To be expanded...

Good stuff.

This isn't boot camp and you are not a ninja. But you sure look like an idiot in that outfit.
