Hello all, this is jeff. You can read my intro on the rookie forum, or not. I'm just a very busy rookie explorer who attends Vic High and who's passions are blackmetal music, french horns, bicycles, and art. I've never been underground, but would like to go with some people who know what they're doing. I'm scared of poison gas. Now that I've figured out how to post, kublakhan(he kindly tried to help me), I shall post a ton of new and interesting info on this forum that I hope is new for all of you. As soon as i get time. Have a good dy all,
jeff

This is a lethal combination.

Are you actually able to execute the complicated playing functions of the French Horn in accordance with the strict guidelines of the black metal genre?

what about bassoon combined with john williams' best known movie soundtracks?

I'm back! I survived a nine-course semester. I might be missing vancouver a bit but that's just because i've developed a hate-on for this city. Granted, I don't know it well enough to formulate much of an opinion yet...

Yes, Kublakhan. I am working on writing blackmetal music for the french horn. No jokes.
Anyways here's the info on stuff I said I'd post. I hope there's SOMETHING new in here that you guys haven't explored yet.......is that even possible?
1)Anyone been inside the steeple of Christ Cathedral? Well, I was out Uer ing with a bored friend. We went into the cathedral. The tower door was locked with some electronic key. I pressed a bunch of buttons, and it started lighting up and going all weird. We left. But I noticed the priest opening the door to, I presume, to check to make sure two goofs hadn't just broken into the tower. He ascended, leaving the dooer open behind him. We followed. The stairs were epic--hella narrow, steep, stone, plastered white walls. Unfortunately, the priest came down quickly and almost caught us, so we didn't get to take photos. Maybe he'll let me in if I ask him nicely some day.

2)Asquith tunnel--heard of it? I have a friend named Scott. He's been independently researching the tunnels of Victoria/the upper levels of Freemason society. I've just hired him to make a map of all the tunnels he knows of just in case he knows of something we don't know about. Anyways, the Asquith Street tunnel is all cemented up. How to get in, then? Well, Scott has a sealed entrance on his yard. With his permission, we could smash the seal and cover it up with something removable like bricks so that the city doesn't know. Anyone in for that? Apparently it's quite long, running all the way to Belmont street.

3)Ross Bay tunnel--you sure the entrance is burned? I might know of another way in. Now, I don't want to give away the exact location in case this entrance gets burned too. I don't know if this one leads to some other tunnel, or if it leads to the cool 'sealed' one one with the pentagram and the stalactites. I don't know if you guys know about it. All I'll say is this: it's in the east part of the cemetary. It has nice little steps down, and the tunnel clearly runs PARALLEL to the beach, at least from the manhole view. If this entrance sounds new, I'd be more than happy to personally show it to you guys sometime. The manhole was rusted shut, so I cleaned it up a bit, so it is probably easier to open now. Since I am a rookie, however, I am NOT going down there, at least not yet. I have no idea what the air down there is like, if there's poison gas, who knows?
4)Vic High--Lots of passageways that have been already explored. But has anyone ever been in the old abandoned elevator shaft?
So I was UERing Vic High with some friends when we went into a room (don't want to get this burned, so I'll be vague) and happened to see a small, gray (easily break into-able)solid metal grate which is usually closed, just open. JUST WIDE OPEN!! We never could have guessed that this insignificant hatch led anywhere. We crawled in. There was a big dark room, with another room behind it, separated by half- closed sliding metal doors. Then we had to run (to class).
Next day, we went into the next room, armed with flashlight and camera. UNBELIEVABLE. Stepped in, all of a sudden we were in a huge dark room full of pipes and girders and.......no ceiling in sight!!!It must have been the old elevator shaft! One guy climbed up about 15-20 feet on some girders to get a better view, and he took some photos. It was awesome. I assume that the shaft was probably 150-200 feet high(I don't know exact height of Vic High), as we were in the basement (but not the boiler room). Then we almost got caught. Almost. But no one knows we were in there.
That day we also discovered a secret passageway in the ceiling. There was a hole cut in the ceiling, so we all took turns climbing in, one person at a time. When I went in, I found it to be FULL of every kind of dilapidated pipe imaginable. Pipes, pipes, cables everywhere. The passage was big, too. Maybe as much as 10 feet head space. Perhaps 30 feet long, 20 feet wide. It may have connected with other passageways (read: probably did), but we had no time to explore further. It was hazardous up there. There were so many pipes up there you had to crawl 'cause you'd make a racket or trip if you walked. It was dark inside, of course. When I was up there, I almost got caught. It was terrifying. Kudos to the tuba player in the vic high concert band, Justin 'Timberpond' who gallantly waited to help me down. At the risk of getting in serious trouble, he saved my skin as well as the secrecy of this passageway.
Now, while the ceiling passageway was probably only open only for renovations going on nearby, there is probably another way in. I bet the elevator shaft is still either open or at least very easy to break into, and probably will always be so. Check now. Renovations in Vic High are still going on, I think. I'll have to check monday. I'd love to show you guys how to get in if these spots are new to your ears. I'm afraid that my friend has the photos, so I'm nagging him to post them. They'll be on this thread no sooner than Monday. You'll see em eventually.
This adventure has left me with a much greater appreciation for the awesome history of Vic High.

5)Davie street tunnel--was talkin to two city workers in Fairfield tellin' me all the tragic stories of just how fast gas can kill you. They also told me that there's this unbelievable tunnel under davie. Anyone been in it??? They said it's 40 feet deep, very long, very big, gorgeous arches, brick, built by chinese folks, just spectacular. But the air down there can be treacherous. I think that they said that there's some unbelievably dangerous gas called 'AL7'that can accumulate down there. The two workers have walked it all(with a shitload of gas monitoring devices, of course). Anyone interested?

6)Extension--heard of this town? It's outside outside of Nanaimo. I've gone mountain biking there. Awesome place. Out in the the woods and out of sight, it used to be the second largest town on the island. Currently, it is inhabited by about 100 souls. It used to have 11 churches, hotels, camps for each nationality of miner-yugoslav camp, japanese camp, chinese camp, scot camp, british camp, german camp--lots of racism. It also had a train to Nanaimo. Now, there's a boarded up general store that's probably worth breaking into, great mountain biking, flat gravel roads into the forest on what used to be railway lines, two mine shafts that are enter-able (I have them on a good map), a 150 foot high pile of coal in the middle of town, a seismic fault crack that you CAN fall into, and avery nice house with a cool memorial sculpture of some poor chinese miner with a lantern. Next to him is an original restored coal cart hauled from anearby shaft. The people in the house are really cool, really nice. They'll tell you about the town's dark and depressing history, which could easily pass for the lyrics of a Bathory song.
Extension--literally only scratched the surface.

7)Satanism and Freemasonry. Personally, I think satanism a swell religion. However, every culture has it's morons. So I've been researching. Found some disturbing info. Will post all another day. One thing:Michelle Remembers is fake. It was false memory syndrome. Talk to Richard at Dark Horse books. He knows the real characters in the book, and says they're some of the sweetest nicest people he's ever known. They NEVER deserved the defamation inflicted upon them. It has been hurtful to some of them. HOWEVER, REAL satanic abuse in Victoria HAS occurred, unfortunately. More on this another day. For the time being, any curious researcher......don't poke you nose into the Temple of Set. Seriously.
I promise to always cite my sources on this controversial subject.

8)Anyone want to explore Cole Island? Heard there's munitions still in warehouses.

So that's most of my explorations. Does anyone want to go UERing with me/friends? As a rookie, I've never been underground, but am itching to. I'm just extremely concerned about poison gas, and I really don't have any knowlege at all on how to explore the underground safely. I'd love to learn the tricks of the trade. My friends and I are free all Christmas break. Got any suggestions for tunnels safe enough for rookies? Or, I'd love to meet some of you guys and go UERing.
And if anyone's interested, there's acool metal show with iskra the 20th @Camas. I'll be there.
G'day, rock on!!

I've dispatched my personal minions to settle this matter accordingly.

All of what he's posted (with the exception of the Extension thing) has been investigated.

Cole Island was my Father's Day present from my son. Not the actual island, but a very nice afternoon spent wandering throughout the various buildings. Pics are somewhere on this board.

Otherwise, I welcome his enthusiasm. Might spark renewed interest.

Great post jeffrey, you've covered a lot of ground. You may want to be a bit more vague at times, mainly as you get in to more intense/obscure places. This is partly not to leave info of what you have done, but also to avoid giving access clues to people who may do more than just leave footprints and take photos.

You can always suggest people PM you for more details, and if you know them by name and posts, then divulge, or meet for coffee first.

Good work, and welcome.

Cool. So you guys have been in the elevator shaft? Ah, I knew it!
Say, just curious, Kubla said the stuff's all been explored.....inside Asquith?
Not that I was planning to go down there. I just mentioned my friends house in case no one had been in and someone experienced wanted a peep.
And Lien, thanks for the advice. Don't worry, I've spat up all of my current tunnel knowledge, so there's nothing more for me to spill the beans on. I won't be doing anything too wild right now, I'm staying safely above ground at present.
Have a great day, y'all

Wow, you may be a noob to this board, but your post made me feel like a noob at life O_O.

I've got some work to do... (once being underground doesn't carry a distinct possibility of flash flooding and whatnot..)

-Lupurus

Edit: Didn't want to double-post. This thread is pretty unwieldy for searching, so I hope I'm not dredging up old news. About UVic: my understanding has always been that it was pretty boring, tunnel-wise. A drain or two nearby, but nothing particularly awesome. However, I recently came across some rumors about a real tunnel system up on the hill there, left over from the area's history as a military base, pre-Victoria college. Any word on whether these rumors hold any water?

but, keep on Ue'ing, sounds like you're very motivated and getting around.

Like a hunting permit? Is there a limit on how many Kubla's once can hunt per day or is it just open season?
