Jordan

This is a town that has a lot to offer for explorers.
Last night, D_Wrex and I took a trip out there with a tip from Amber. We located the manhole lid and peeked down it through a hole. "What?! This doesn't look like anything!" We began to doubt the legend that was born only a few days earlier on a DE thread.
The story was: Supposedly, you could drop into this hole and crawl through a 3' pipe for a block or two and find a connection (somehow, somewhere) to a network of caves.
When I looked down the hole, I saw two 6" pipes protruding from opposite sides of the shaft, in line with the street, and also a ribbed culvert to guide street runoff water into a nearby creek. We assumed that the size of the pipe was overestimated, and began to think of something else to do. As we looked up, our eyes fell upon an old house about 50 feet away from our position - ABANDONED!
We got in through the back doorway, which lacked a door. There was absolutely no graffiti or other vandalism anywhere in the house. The windows were not boarded up, so the street lights beautifully painted the entire interior.
During the first couple of minutes on the first floor, neither of us said a word. Then, D_Wrex remarked, "This house feels like it's moving!". Right away when he said that, I told him that I was just about to say the same thing, but hesitated because I thought I was imagining it. It was the weirdest sensation we'd ever felt. It seriously felt like the house was tipping over while we walked and both of us nearly fell down several times. This only happened on the first floor, however.
When we exited, we checked the building's structural integrity. Everything was fine. In fact, the house was extremely stable. The only explanation we could come up with was that it was haunted.
Then, we decided to double-check Amber's story. We went to the creek and entered through culvert to avoid having to pop a manhole cover in the middle of the street. Our new knee pads were greatly appreciated.
I was in the lead, and as we came to the shaft that was inspected from above earlier, I realized I had missed a key piece of information - a 3' tunnel headed up toward the bluff!! How did I not see that!! We picked up speed and ended up crawling 3 blocks, as originally estimated. We came to an end, though. It had been blocked off with cement. If the legend had truth to it in the past, it was no longer possible now - at least not through this particular passage. We came out through an interesting sort of circular metal structure in the middle of the woods. At first I thought we were in a cemetary!
We poked around the old brewery for awhile after that, and spotted a metal door at the base of the bluff! Hope took ahold of our night once again! D_Wrex inspected the door and found it to be securely welded shut. We realized that we were standing on loose boards, though. I picked one up and, behold, there was an old stairway covered in mud and debris heading down into what appeared to be a disused sub-basement. It was HUGE, though!! Getting in was dangerous, because while slipping through the muddy hole, we had to be careful not to fall off the side of the stairs - a 10 foot drop onto miscellaneous debris in the dark would probably be bad.
Once safely on the floor, we realized that it was even more spacious than we thought. 15 foot high ceilings with various rooms dividing the area. The mud was funny because it curiously stuck to our shoes in big chunks, making it look like we had strange-looking footwear. Did I mention we wore our suits and ties for this occasion? It was even funnier being dressed up in nice clothes while trudging through the crappiest of imaginable environments. I guess it's sort of a rebellion thing. You know, when you were a kid your mom would say, "Don't get dirty in your nice clothes."
In the middle of the largest room there was a rickety old ladder that went up into a hole in the ceiling. We knew that there was a Victorian house above us, so we figured we could probably access it through here. We were about 90 percent sure it was abandoned, so we climbed up. D went first, and the ladder cracked while he was half-way up. He froze still and we looked at each other like "I don't know about this". We made it up with quick, confident motions without incident.
Finding ourselves in more of an upper level of the sub-basement, we looked for a trap door or something to admit us to the ground level. I looked around a corner and, wah-lah!, I saw the bottom of a stairway!
At this point, we began findings clues of occupancy. We creeped up the stairs quietly to the door. We looked for signs of an alarm system. Nothing. I looked at D and read his eyes. They agreed with my urge to try opening the door. I pushed and it made a loud cracking sound as it squeezed from the doorway's grip. I stopped and listened for sounds of alarmed life inside. One more crack, then it opened. We both immediately realized we needed to get the hell out of there! The first thing we saw was a dinner table with a tablecloth, candles, and even dishes and utensils in place! There was also something 5 feet from me which I could not make out in the dark. I couldn't help but think that it was most likely a dead body.
We ran away from that place in what seemed like fast motion. Adrenaline rushing, we laughed out loud the whole way back to our car.

Jordan kicks ass!

Was this the yellow house with white trim? *nearest the brewery from the manhole I originally spoke of* or the cream colored jobby with red trim and a turret on the other side of the brewery (aka the old Botz house)?

For the record: Both houses were slated for demolition. Gail Anderson, former mayor and fab-woman-extraordinaire, saved both. She bought 'em and had 'em moved to her land (flanking the brewery).

It was the yellow one with white trim.
If you check it out (if you haven't already), watch out as you enter the back door. There's a 6 foot drop into the basement - I almost freaking died!
Do you know if the other house is being lived in yet? It was at least partially furnished, but also seemed a little "incomplete?".

I only listen to 104.7 Poop. I'm always in deep shit, so I may as well listen to poop.

To my knowledge, no it is not inhabited. Tonight begins my weekend, so will investigate further and report back.

I have never been lost, but I will admit to being confused for several weeks.
