elevator fun
entry by Gatsby

After the UE dinner on friday, we (Noah Vale, ETMJ, Ofberenonehand, BlackHole, Frozen, Arrow and myself) decided to try to find our way into a certain FUN sewage transport route and failed. There is still an option, but a tool is needed that we did not have at the time. Adding this to my "to do" list, the count is almost up to the triple digits. This will be a great summer of UE!

After that, we did a coin toss to help us decide between two options: hauling a projector into a certain abandoned theater to watch a movie while drinking cocktails, or exploring a famous elevator in Minneapolis. It told us to explore the elevator. Frozen and Arrow decided to bow out for good reasons, but Adam_Zelotes was able to join us, as he was just getting off from work.
When we arrived at the location, a security guard immediately got suspicious. We did a good job of distracting him with mind games while we made our entrance. I love infiltrating! I never get sick of that feeling you get when you actually have to plan it out and work hard to get in. It makes the experience WAY better. None of us had actually been in here yet except Ofberenonehand, so it was pretty exciting. This place had possibly the best view of the city that I had seen to date, and the basement was one of my favorites as well. Packed with machinery and crap, it was extremely photogenic. Noah took tons of pictures, as he was to head back to Texas the next day and wouldn't get another chance.
The basement had a connection to city drainage and sewer, so I NEED to go back soon and begin exploring that. There was also a hole in the wall that had water(?) falling out of it that I want to check out. This hole is gonna be hard to get into, because it's high off the ground and not exactly in a safe spot. Sounds like an adventure to me!
On a side note, cold weather sucks! I got really wet while in the basement, and then being on the roof with the cold wind almost killed me. I was shivering violently by the end of the night.
Possibly the high point of the evening, on way back down from the roof, we noticed that there was an apartment across from us with it's lights on. We saw a bed and some shadows moving around. Yeah, I'll admit we all sat in front of that window waiting for some action for a good 30 minutes. How pathetic. We saw them take their clothes off and get on the bed, but the lights went off in favor of the TV, so it was too hard to see anything. ETMJ suggested that one of us go down and ring their doorbell so they turn there lights back on, or just spotlight them for a couple of seconds - they wouldn't be able to tell where it came from. We'll have to set up for some video footage next time.
On our way out, I heard someone whisper something indiscernible, but with recognizable urgency. I was presently hanging from an iron piece about 10 feet off the ground. I thought they were telling me that there was a cop outside or something, so I panicked and fell crooked, scraping my hand on the rusty metal and hitting my back on a bolt. It turned out they weren't even talking to me at all and wondered why I was suddenly so uncoordinated. Embarrassing.
We left quickly and went our separate ways.
A return trip has already been scheduled - yeah!
