| Return of Satan entry by Gatsby 3/30/2005 1:00 AM
| Brian, a friend of mine, wanted me to take him to see Satan's Cave. I knew Adam_Zelotes was wanting to take some more photographs there, so I asked him to join us. Another photographer friend of mine, Jeremy, also came along. The four of us chose to enter at the sign, because we all love crouch-walking. Everyone does! When we got to the part where you choose to go over or under the sewer line, we chose the former option, since it seemed more adventurous at that moment. You know that little hole you have to go through immediately after that? Well, the ceiling had shedded enough of it's content to completely bury it. I was all, "Oh, man. Look at this." They were like, "Whoa." Then I started digging...and digging...and digging some more. After about 10 minutes I relocated enough clay to possibly squeeze through the hole, which was ORIGINALLY small enough to make you want to lose 10 pounds. I don't get claustrophobic, so I tried first. Head first. I think my butt was sticking up in the air when I was contorting myself to fit through, and I heard those jerks laughing. I like the fact that there are bats in these tunnels and caves - it makes the trip worth it. I haven't really been satisfied with any of my pictures of bats from previous trips, so I took a lot this time. Ahh, what can I tell you about Satan's cave? Oh, Brian saved a bat that was on the ground, half-covered in sand. He got it to grab onto a stick and put it back up on the wall where it no doubt felt more alive. He snapped a great picture of it in the process when it's wings were spread! Adam took highly interesting self-portraits, as usual. Very artistic! We emerged via the field, feeling hungry and detached from society.
