sunset shots
entry by Gatsby
2/19/2005 3:07 AM

Ofberenonehand gladly joined me to take sunset shots from the roof of a prominent elevator in Mpls on Tuesday. Adam_Zelotes got me going on the idea when on Friday, he invited me to do the same thing. I already had plans (I was soooo jealous - the sunset was beautiful that night!).
We met on location around 5:30. I thought it was gonna be over by the time we got to the top, but it turned out that it kept getting more and more beautiful as we took more and more pictures. At one point, I said "Man! We pretty much just wasted a bunch of shots, because none of them can possibly compare to how gorgeous the sky is right now!". I use film, so I had to wait to see my pictures. Damn you digital people! Even though I like a lot of my shots, photographs can't really capture how it feels to actually stand there and gaze at a scene so unbelievably heaven-like. When I find a girlfriend, I'm bringing her up there for a sunset.
After dark, we cruised up to the "1930's theater" once again to get more shots. It's so fun being in an abandoned theater, because I'm constantly imagining past scenes that might have taken place there. As I stood at the edge of the stage, I could imagine what the auditorium looked like filled with excited patrons, all hoping that their expectations would be satisfied with the night's viewing.
Experimental photographs are good and "bad" - good because you can come up with original images, but "bad" because the options are endless, which means you could make countless return trips. Fun every time, though!

As usual, I was late to work that night.
