another surprise

Adam_Zelotes, D_Wrex, Ofberenonehand, Silly Rabbit and I took a trip up north on Saturday to do the convent we scouted around last time. Adam headed up there with a friend shortly after noon, and the rest of us planned on meeting him at Pizza Luce in Duluth around 10pm. Adam's friend was in one of the bands playing there that night, so we got in for free! We stuffed ourselves while talking about the interesting decor (light fixtures reminiscent of utility tunnel lights!) and the good weather - a positive change from our last attempt!
We began our trek toward the convent around 12:30am. Our previous scouting sped up our entrance greatly. Once inside, we realized quickly that the entire building was completely trashed. The floors were entirely unsafe from water damage - there were actual holes in various areas. Pigeons were ever-present on overhead beams. You could tell where they liked to sit the most, as there were large piles of poop beneath certain spots.
Here's the surprise - we realized after snooping around for about a half hour that this was NOT a convent. This was a theater! We were sure of this when we found the projection room and, of course, the main auditorium. This building was most likely at least 100 years old, so it was probably used for vaudeville acts before converting to the silver screen (the adequate stage suggested this as well). The highlight for me was when we found the upstairs lounge area and the piano was still there!! Was took many pictures of this room, but were careful not to put too much weight in one spot. It would be a two-story equivalent fall to the auditorium floor! We were also able to get on the roof. Since the weather was great, we could take our time up there and enjoy the feeling that comes with a good UE experience.
Later on, we located the real convent (actually, Adam did some further scouting earlier in the day, and had these suspicions already). Looking through windows from the fire escape in the back, it appeared to be in the 2nd stage of renovation. It had been gutted out and cleaned up, so we lost a ton of our interest in the place. Ofberenonehand located a spot that we could probably infiltrate if we brought back the right equipment, but we were growing tired at this point. I'd like to get in only to find out if there are tunnels that connect to the nearby church.
It was nearing 5am when we decided to head back to the cities, but on our way to the car we found a luscious alleyway that simply HAD to be photographed. Self-portraits were in order as well...perfect background for filthy, tired explorers.

	My ever-depressing secret - I don't have a computer. I exploit Dunn Brothers' internet access for my purposes, but they don't have a scanner. I'm planning on throwing a party for the local UE community at my apartment sometime in the spring, so I'll have to show everyone pictures at that time.

	That second photo is way cool ... not to discredit your self portrait, of course. I'm looking forward to perusing your website ... make sure to give a heads up when it's set to go.
