What kind of gear or equipment is necessary for tunnel or pipe exploration? Thinking about trying out my first one this weekend 👍🏻

Headlamp/flashlight
Respirator
Skateboard (maybe)

Lots of other extra stuff can be used for comfort but you don't really need anything more than light.

This! Don't risk going without a backup light and spare batteries. When you are underground, your lights become life support equipment.

Seconded. Carry a light source, a backup light source, a backup backup light source, and spare batteries for each. And no, your phone doesn't count as a light source.

If you want to get some cool pics, bring a glow stick.

Some of this I think has been mentioned but you should bring a good headlamp plus an extra headlamp just in case for some reason it quits working. Extra flashlights and extra batteries (trust me you don't want to be in a drain without any lights, I had that happen when I explored my first small drain). A sturdy backpack with a lot of zippers and pockets. Bring your phone, some good power banks (2 or 3 should be good), bring some snacks and at least a bottle of water in case you get thirsty and hungry. You might want to bring some Ziploc bags (the bags with the slider zippers on them are best, just make sure there's no holes in them) so your electronics and batteries don't get wet. Make sure whatever you wear for clothes, pants, shoes etc you don't care if it gets ruined from exploring drains (trust me I do a lot of exploring drains so I can tell you that all of these things are a must have). Make sure you check the weather to see if it will rain or not (when it rains, no drains). I recommend wearing waterproof boots or hiking shoes (drain tunnels can be very slippery). If you can, try to bring as least 1 or 2 friends with you on your adventure and always tell you family where you are going and where you will be. The last but not least, have fun exploring the drains and be safe!
