Hi,

I am located in upstate NY and willing to travel to NYC to explore. I am newish to the exploration zone and would like some input. What to bring with you? What to do if an issue arises? What to bring for quick snacks / drinks?

Thanks
Jacob

There's a fair amount in the city to explore but the people who explore it don't readily hand out information.

This place was abandoned. The last I read, a section still is and an area that was open is now closed:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Line

43 years ago I used to explore a couple of abandoned piers that are now gone.

Flushing Meadow Park:

https://en.wikiped...eadows-Corona_Park

I went there when nothing was abandoned in the Fall of 1964. I went back in the Summer of 1985. A mixture of both...

A cheap handheld scanner. NYPD is still analog:

"Ok, So there not P25 TDMA Or anything like that?"

Maybe other agencies, NYC is UHF and NY State Police is a mix of P25 plus VHF-High.

New York State Frequencies:

If you're starting from Upstate NY, there's a fair amount of stuff in Upstate NY.

My information would be badly outdated, but...

Albany area is good.

Catskills, somewhat.

South of Albany...

West Shore of the Hudson, somewhat.

East Shore of the Hudson, a little.

NYPD is still analog.

They're the exception rather than the rule in NY. The NYPD is huge and it takes a lot of money to make changes.

The NYPD has more cops than some countries (like Nicaragua and El Salvador) have soldiers in their armies.

"NYPD is still analog."

LEOs use "Cell Phones" way much more than their 2-way systems, anyway...

The city has a fair amount of islands. Look at what's on the different islands.

NYC has a lot of places but just that it is closely guarded or kept out of the spotlight. People say NYC does not have anything or not really looking hard enough.
