[Victoria] Any info/experience on the Bowker Creek tunnel?

hey all.

a couple weeks ago i saw an r/urbex post where someone referenced storm drains under victoria. upon further inquiry, the poster mentioned that they accessed the tunnel from a gate labelled "bowker creek" near hillside. from there i researched further and found that they were most likely in the urbanized drains for bowker creek which runs from Cedar Hill gold course to Oak Bay. some google earth later and i found their access point. as a fun note the bowker creek google maps listing shows images from inside the tunnel.

all of this to say i'm currently planning a trip to try exploring this system and as a new explorer i'm just wondering if any regional veterans have experience with these tunnels or their accesses.

thanks.

welcome, nice to have another potential drainer around!

that part of Bowker is/was commonly called Hall of Wonders, and it used to have a cool evolution graf piece sporadically running along the entire length of it. most of that has been painted over or fallen apart by now. there are some details on it in the forums here.

there are a couple of smaller sections downstream of that, and another long one a bit upstream. i think they've all been covered here (Fireman's Slide, Bokwer's Woody)

they're all about as safe/easy as drains get, easy access, no crazy slides and they're over-engineered for how much water they carry.

i might be up for a visit later this week/weekend.

oh yeah, i've seen it around here without knowing it then.
thanks for the info, i'm thinking of trying the Pearl St. entrance with a friend in a couple of weeks.

just so i don't get any gnarly surprises, how tall should my boots be and is it just water?

tall enough to not get wet if you don't like getting wet, but it is just water, you could go in sandals too.

the bigger concern underground is air quality. you should do some research on things like airflow, venting, contamination and egress.

and do bring that friend. people have died doing this solo.

I'm back from work in a few days and always down to join a drain mission
