I've been pretty slack lately uploading stuff, I've been busy with work and generally feeling very apathetic towards exploring at the moment for a number of reasons, but with some time to kill I thought I'd put up another spot from my March US trip. I've had a bad case of the blues ever since returning, the trip brought back so many emotions and feelings and dreams and ideas of how my heart really truly belongs over there and I found it very difficult - more so than on any previous trip - to come home and adjust to life not there.

This place is somewhere that very much surprised me. I'd not even ever heard of it's existence before I arrived down in the south, and to anyone walking past it would simply look like a large abandoned house/old shop with a partially collapsed extension on the rear. Completely anonymous and unremarkable with only a very small sign on the front giving a clue as to it's former use as a dental surgery - that is, until you step inside. Inside is one of the most incredible time capsule locations I've ever seen. I generally hate the over-used phrase 'time capsule' but in this case it really is the only description accurate enough to describe the place. The dental surgery closed in 2003 when the owner retired, and it, to all intents and purposes, looks like the employees on that final day simply locked the doors behind them and never returned.

Twenty years later the building is in a bad way. The poorly built wooden extension on the rear has partially collapsed in the middle, of the six dental surgery suites in the building one has fallen straight through the floor of the room it's in and one is inaccessible behind a seriously compromised floor, and the floor in the hallway that runs along the edge of the extension next to the original part of the building has collapsed into a mushy mess. The almost entirely natural decay is great, but it's the sheer quantity of stuff left everywhere which is so crazy. Thousands of patient files, x-rays, photos, dental tools, plaster moulds, medication, literally everything, it's unbelievable until you see it.

Below are a mixture of DSLR and phone shots, we actually ended up here twice as on the first visit Sheavy forgot his lens so couldn't shoot the building properly - the revisit gave me a chance to take some shots on my phone I couldn't with my DSLR.

Thanks for looking

P.S. huge music nerd related bonus points to anyone who knows what artist gave me the inspiration for the title of the thread.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Damn you got some really good shots here, especially of the smaller stuff. It took me many many hours to find the pin for this and it was super nice to share the experience of actually seeing it with y’all.

It was by far one of the best surprises of the entire trip!
