As of mid 2021 (around july), the Prince of Wales bridge on the Ott/Gat crossing has been officially renamed and really barred off for renovation.
The plans had been in the making for multiple years (local MP wanted to make it into a foot bridge for cross-province cyclists/joggers/etc), but I'd always thought we would have more time. This place really was a jem and sure, the renovation will be good, but the community of people who safely frequented it will be broken up.
I believe the sudden decision to begin renovations came from the two people that unfortunately perished off the bridge (m14-2020, m29-2021). Unfortunately , these deaths are a testament to the importance of safety in exploration. I'll say, it really blows to lose a true cultural capital gem to those whose inability to act responsibly leads to tragedy.
