I am convinced that I will eventually find the dead body of a forgotten senior in one of the old farmhouses I explore, and I really thought that this one was finally it. The stench upon climbing up to the bedrooms was absolutely unbearable. It smelled
large, if that's even possible, and I really did expect to find a wizened old lump in one of the beds. Instead, the body was slumped overtop a tipped chair, and was definitely an unexpected source. But the death theme was very short-lived: some angry eastern phoebes followed me into the house, tweeting and chipping away at my trespassing. It didn't take long to find their nest overtop of a hallway entrance. They are only bird species here in Ontario to build nests with moss for camouflage and they have an affinity for abandoned human structures. I would have liked to explore the outbuildings here, but the driveway walk was long and very exposed. I felt like I was in the crosshairs of the neighbor.
