I found this place after a long day of bust after bust. Like most good finds, someone pointed it out and mentioned it to our group, and we took a u-turn and headed back. The whole place seemed like it had been fairly high security, with razor wire fences, a (supposed) electronic alarm system, cameras, and a guard booth. Now at least, it is entirely forgotten.
There are three tanks, two for oil, and one for water. (presumably in case of emergency) Unfortunately, we couldn’t get into the tanks, as the only possible entrance was bolted shut with some steel tread plate type thing.
After a bit of reading, it seems like a nearby offshore oil rig used to pump oil into the storage tanks, and somehow it got transported to a purification company about a mile down the coast, at least until the oil rig shut down. The whole area smells of petrol. Surprisingly, the city decided to put a wildlife preserve right next to it, and I mean literally next door.
Surprisingly, for how long it seems to have been abandoned, there is no graffiti. Quite refreshing, to be honest.
For lack of a more straightforward method, I’ve included a google drive link with some photos of the site.
