I made the above photo/paining while watching the seemingly endless real-time tragedies unfolding on Youtube a couple nights ago. The sunflower is the Ukrainian national flower (I happened across the flowers on a road trip from Gilman, Colorado back to Texas around 2017), and of course, the background is in the colors of the Ukrainian flag - blue and gold.

This is tended without pride or even assertion that it's in proper taste...

But the Russians sure are managing to make our American military misadventures of the last half-century look downright competent and humane (all relative, of course), aren't they?

I was following that map early on in this, but most of the data isn't current.

It needs historical layering so you can filter the data rather than get bombarded with every single report since Day 1.

Speaking if drones, the Victory Day parade was today. Usually there's quite a bit of drone footage in the video. This year there was none. They didn't even orbit the clock tower like they've done for years.

Also absent were flyovers.

Makes me think Vlad is seriously paranoid and probably has an array of air defense assets around the Kremlin.

Also of note was the appearance of Sergei Shoigu. He had fallen out of public view early in the Ukraine invasion, but is back now.

The parade itself was a bit shorter than usual and there were no foreign guests. Not even Steven Seagal.

Anyone else here can't stop thinking about that huge Azovstal complex – perhaps a little guiltily –, through "what-if" UE eyes? Cold-war tunnels and bunkers, emergency C&C infrastructure...

There won't be much left, and whatever remains will be haunting: most likely an actual tomb that may or may not be (re)discovered generations later.

Odessa has a huge tunnel system. "Mysteries Of The Abandoned" on Science Channel here in the US did a feature on them a few years ago.

Оде́са is a uniquely crazy place, which just happens to stand right bang in Vlad's (war)path to Transnistria. He might still attempt this (de)feat, but he'd have to contend with a million-plus Odessites if he does.

These people are passionate about their city, to say the least. They'll defend it with everything they've got (the tunnel system would help a lot). Let's just hope that they won't have to.
