Westover Generating Station, New York

Also known as Goudey Station, this old coal-fired power station was built in 1917 along the Susquehanna River in Binghamton, New York. The only two turbines left dated back from 1944 and 1955 and not much from the original part was still noticeable beside the arched windows.

I don't know what the current status of this place but from last news it was already moslty dismantled...

I really liked this place, you're right it's pretty much demolished now. This was the most intact of a string of small plants nearby which were all cool in their own way.

I'm actually going to be staying up there very soon, such a shame they pulled it down as I'd have loved to go back. The other one out east of it may well tempt me again though, that one was an underrated little gem.

that control room looks a bunch like the one in the powerhouse where I used to work... too bad this is all gone. Binghamton is a day drive for me.

that was one department I didn't work in. My duties in the recaust plant sometimes took me into the powerhouse, mostly for equipment lockouts. Kraft process paper mills generally have a powerhouse on-site. They consist of a power boiler (like a normal power plant) and a recovery boiler, dedicated to turning black liquor to green liquor and sending that liquor to us to turn it back into white liquor.

I was just struck by how much the control room of that power plant was laid out like the one at my former employer.

This is a great set in general, but #3 is perfect. Its a cool looking spot. I wish I'd gotten into power plants a little sooner.
