He is.
And he whinnnnnnnnnnnesssssssss to be taken places.

He's been invited to two meetups, and both of which is just a bunch of explorers hanging out partying and not really exploring.

BOTH parties he WHINED and CRIED to be taken somewhere. full out temper tantrum.

And when someone finally took his ungrateful ass he still complained it wasn't good enough.

he's a goddamn cry baby. wish people stop giving him the time of day.

Even worse is when he tries to organise meetups himself, and it would be weeks long and completely infeasible, and he'd try to invite everyone. And even if mods told him to stop making more events, he'd soon give in and make more anyway.

I have it on the authority of the man himself that it's all part of his two prong strategy to get people to explore with him. The first part of the strategy is to deliberately act as pathetic as possible in order to convince people to take him places out of pity. The second part is to act that way so frequently that he annoys people into taking him places just to get him to shut up for a minute.

He also fully acknowledged that this burns bridges often enough that he'll only ever get one explore per person with this method, but that's a price he's willing to pay. To mitigate that, he uses his discord server to collect the "bottom of the barrel" explorers, as he puts it- the ones too indiscreet, too unlikeable, or too incompetent to be accepted by the rest of the general community. That way they have to explore with him as their only in-road to the community, ensuring that they need him if they want to be a part of it.

Make no mistake, the way he acts is a calculated choice.

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.

Yep, glad we got rid of him here.

The hilarity to defend an person who purposely acts like an piece of shit to manipulate people into doing what he wants, and then continues to act ungrateful.

Mind boggling.

True, but the same statement applies to probably half of the entire exploring community

Maybe, but even if that is true, Bill is an extreme case. His level of manipulation and all around douche-baggery make him someone the community at large doesn't want to deal with. Hence why he is banned, and I think we are better off because of it.

Emphasis mine, but I couldn't agree more. I remember debates over him in AvChat 10+ years ago. He's been banned for I don't know how many years, maybe around 10, either way it's time to let this shit go. He's not a good fit for UER, and is more of a liability than an asset.

You aren't wrong.

But is his level of manipulation really any more "extreme" than others over the years? He definitely gets into fewer locations than an urbex slut/location whore cause he doesn't pimp himself for locations and I think he has done a lot less damage to locations and other people's real lives than other explorers have.

I don't think anyone is actually arguing that Bill is some great guy, he is the web's top douchebag for sure and his "style" of "exploring" is a joke but it works to his advantage. He knows what he is doing and there's no doubt about it - the more attention, especially negative, that he receives the stronger it makes him. He is a troll and a "tourist" and definitely is not an asset to UER.

I just think he is a lot smarter than a lot of people think and they write him off as "stupid" but the irony is those are the same people that he tends to live rent-free inside of their heads. There is a science to his madness and when you look at it from a psychological standpoint it's actually quite interesting... and that is after I listened to the podcast episode that Doug posted.

If you have an hour to listen to the podcast episode give it a listen. The mind fucking that Bill is capable of is really interesting when you break it down and look at it. His actions begin to make a lot more sense. Not saying its right, again, just saying why he does what he does makes a lot more sense

And that’s why I don’t hang out with anyone from exploring, and stick to an handle full of friends that we barely even explore anymore.

I've exchanged a few comments replies with Bill and it's enough to never need to meet him. I regret ever getting social with exploring on Instagram. It was so nice being able to just share my pictures with my friends in peace, but now I can't post anything without it getting attention from every "insta explorer".

Anyway, I agree Bill sucks and Instagram sucks, who would've ever guessed.

I regret ever joining instagram. I was active on it from 2013 until early 2020. I got rid of instagram, facebook, reddit... I post my pictures on flickr and in the LDB here.

Too many bad things come from social media and the psychological effects it can have can be really bad. I mean myspace was cool but that was a different world compared to today. I've gone back to a flip phone a couple of times too, but the camera on my Huawei smartphone keeps me from going back to it now lol

But yeah I prefer the fine folks of UER to instagram explorers any fucking day.

I originally joined Instagram to see if it was as bad as people said (know your enemy).
It wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I have lots of old photos and I wanted to put them somewhere because I knew they'd end up being thrown away after I was gone or damaged by a leak in my shed. I tried Photobucket but that eventually asked for an annual fee. That put off most of the photo hosting sites. I started posting them to my Insta account. Most of mine are 20+ years old. I also have a tribute Insta page for Urban Explorers that are no longer with us and another one with urbex stickers. All 3 sites don't reveal locations, but I totally get what you're saying and pretty much agree. The only thing I'd add is that the photos we're posting on the LDB end up in the hands of the Insta crew & social media in general.

The urbex scene is currently mental.

I wish it just went back to doing shit.

I've listened to a bunch more episodes of this podcast since some of them are interesting and out of morbid curiosity. It's like half of the people/topics are presented because they are interesting and relevant, and the rest are just annoying people and stupid urbex drama. I guess the host is trying to "show all sides" which results in giving space to people who only have a name for themselves because they are abrasive and thrive on attention and drama.

As for instagram, it's no secret it's trying hard to be clone of douyin/tiktok. So it's already pretty lousy for serious photographers or people trying to network. I don't know what happened to the old internet where you could actually post photos on the webs and talk to people who like the same shit.

My account got locked recently (no clue) and honestly it's kinda refreshing. I've found Twitter and niche groups on Reddit, FB, and Flickr to be so much better.

I'll eat a bowl of water with a fork before I think he'll be a good addition to the UER community.

I wish him no personal ill-will, but I strongly believe he does not belong in this community. The nicest way I can put it is that he is not a good fit here.

We all know he'll fall back into the same parasitic behaviours described in this thread previously. So even if it were to happen, we'd just have to ban him again.
