It's been a fat minute since I've been back here, feels good to check up on things.

Anyways guys last year around November I managed to get into the old TXU Power Plant in Ft Worth after two tries. It's absolutely one of my favorite locations. The place was locked tight with welded shut entries and very lofty and empty. Recently, I was daydreaming about what it might have looked like in its operating years with heavy machinery and industrial stuff. I figured that some of you older explorers might have some earlier pictures of it. I'd love it if someone could show me some.

10. I love this type of shit. No Escape. Behind the door is a layer of plywood, and then a sheet of steel welded to the the frame, and someones Cheezits.

P.S. On the my first try, my buddy and I were unable to get in. We met a large group of fellas on the outside by pure luck on the same night. We had the same goals in mind, but were ultimately unsuccessful, and met at a popular location near Echo Lake to hang out. If by chance anyone of you guys manage to find this, shoot me a message.

Very cool, to see that place during it's peak would have been awesome.

I missed this thread when it was posted, but that building is one of the few remaining local “staple spots.” TXU is also one of my beginning explores and getting inside that first time was quite a challenge for us too.

I’ve heard that they have sadly cut the stairs that led to the roof. I’d be curious to see if you could confirm that. I haven’t been there in years. One of my goals for a couple years now has been to sneak in and photograph the fireworks on the 4th from that location, but it wouldn’t really work without roof access. Due to the heavy traffic and heightened security, you’d most likely have to get there early in the day or the night before and wait it out for several hours, which is why I’ve be ever actually done it.

Haven't been there since, but I remember they sure did cut em at the floor. What I thought was strange is how some of the upper stairs were left behind. I'm sure it would be possible to throw a rope and climb up there though.

I went ahead and dug up some old photos from around 2015 of this place. The first one is the stairs leading up to the rooftop... not yet cut.

This location was a lot of fun to light paint with all of its little corners and cubby holes. I spent quite a few hours practicing my light painting here when I was first becoming interested in such things.















I'd really like to go back and do a better job with the light painting now that I have a little more experience and a better camera.

Awesome photos, what is light painting? Do you take colored lights and place them in certain spots? I like that effect, Its like it breathes life back into the place and makes it feel active. I especially love the smoke room and open white light door.

Thank you! And, yes, light painting is basically what you said, essentially “painting” with the light and/or placing different lights (I use colored ones, but not all the time, it depends on the situation and the desired effect) in strategic locations. You can also use a strobe (camera flash) to flood a room with light for a split second and get cool effects that way too. The strobes are a lot of fun to experiment with, especially with movement, etc.
