"For many a night I lay awake/And wished that I could watch her die" entry by EatsTooMuchJam 9/17/2004 9:07 PM
I suppose I've been neglecting my UE journal lately.
In the last few weeks since I updated this last I've been to so many places! There was another trip back to the Catskills area where I visited with Drie and PSX and then later with Kowalski and Dagr also. We hit Hudson and Harlem Valley as well as seeing the hole where an abandoned slaughter house used to be and a cool old mansion and finally a badly decaying power plant in Yonkers. It was a perfect weekend and I thank you all again for it.
After that I was in New Jersey where I got to see the famous scary Middletown clown and revisit Asbury Park. I was really sad to see that Palace Amusements was indeed torn down and that there are now boards over all the medusas in the windows of the carousel building. Hopefully the other majestic buildings along the beach don't follow Palace Amusements. I didn't actually go into any of the buildings this time since it seemed that they were recently re-boarded and they were pretty secure.
Last week I had a work trip to Virginia Beach where I took the opportunity to meet up with The Hitman's Daughter and Thirstysandwich. I had too little time in town so we didn't get to explore anything which was sad, but it was good meeting them and hopefully we'll be able to explore some neat stuff when I'm in town again early next month!
Last night I took a few people (Theresa, Mike, and Brandon) to Satan's Cave. They'd previously done some of the tailraces and a few other minor things around town. They were a good group and it was a fun trip. I resurrected my old hobby of wearing suit coats exploring. On the way out we used the flower garden exit and I accidentally let the manhole drop too loudly on the sidewalk. As a result I got to meet "Nat," the guy in his teens (or maybe early 20's - it was dark) who lives in the house (he didn't look like an ex-god of chaos in case you were wondering). He said he comes out whenever he hears the manhole to make sure it isn't a bunch of "punk-ass motherfuckers." Apparently we did not qualify so he left us alone after we chatted for a little while (he was amazed that someone opened the manhole lid from below... heh). Afterward we slid the lid back into place and took off. Another successful trip!

I too was thinking of wearing clothing a bit more formal than I normally would while exploring, especially when meeting new people.
I've had many interactions with the residants of that island having gone to high school there. They don't care much for teenagers from what I remember. I wouldn't have liked me back then either.
I wonder if my art teacher is still there. I will have to find out in October...

In my case the suitcoats came about because I don't care for exploring in camo, but I wanted something with a lot of pockets. I was at the thrift store and noticed suit coats had lots of pockets and were only about $10 which was less than the camo jacket I was exploring in at the time. I also just enjoy the pure silliness of it. I still have the tuxedo coat that was forever altered by a trip through the yuckiest (known) sanitary sewers in St. Paul. It's still hanging in my garage. Sometimes I wonder if any germs are still living on it.

I'm still keeping my eyes open for a top hat and tails, that combined with an oldschool gentleman's cane and maybe a gold watch on a chain should make an interesting UE costume. "I say old chap, have we reached China yet?"

Nope. I explained above where I got the idea. Then people started point out that the likes of Jinx and Darkpassage tend to explore in their nicer clothing.

I have never been lost, but I will admit to being confused for several weeks.

Heh, I would love to see some explorer babe in a dress exploring some of the places Ive been in. Have you ever noticed on the JinX site that they never seem to get dirty wearing the dress clothes? I would wear a suit into some place and come out wearing rags if I did that.

If I'm not mistaken most of them wear grungy clothes in and carry their dress clothes in something that will prevent them from getting dirty. Then they change and take pictures.
