With Thanksgiving approaching I thought I'd ask about exploring on holidays. They're always a great day to explore those security filled spots, so what are your experiences? I'm aiming to hit a factory that's undergoing demolition... hopefully there's no workers!

Holidays are the best time to go exploring. I try to time a series events to three major holidays every year, and a number of smaller ones as well.

About three years ago on New Years Eve I snuck into a high rise that was in the middle of being renovated. All of the lights were on, and alarms on the first few floor's doors. I convinced my girlfriend to come with me even though she doesn't explore, but I knew this would a really cool experience. After hiking up this 23 story building, we got to the top in the open bell tower and watched the cities fireworks. The building is now renovated and entirely occupied. It was really a cool experience, seeing all of the people on the street down below and towering over them, having this whole building to ourselves.

Holidays are great to explore on, plus if you do have a run in with security, hopefully their holiday cheer will prevent them from being too hard on ya, lol

Come to think of it, I had a similar experience a few Christmases ago, although there were no fireworks and I was with a bunch of people. Truthfully I jumped into the construction site to take a piss, but everyone else followed me in and we started going up.

I explored on New Year's Eve once; it was particularly cold but it was also a good decision- I had a great time. On holidays, you're less likely to be caught and more likely to be let off with a warning. Taking people to jail isn't what Santa, turkeys, or pumpkins want.

For my part, I explored an abandoned hospital during last Easter holidays. I must have stayed there for about 8 hours. Everything went well. Except, that I heard someone's footsteps to a word. I hid in a closet under a large staircase. The person in question passed, and I must have stayed about 2 hours in the hospital afterwards before leaving. I went in the opposite direction of the person.

Christmas Eve at Richmond power last year. But someone died there the following week, new year's Eve. Crazy.

In 2011 during the Korean version of Thanksgiving, and we were caught exploring an abandoned hospital overlooking military property. They were on high alert because the holiday also happened to fall on 9/11 that year.

I usually save the hard places(power plants, hospitals, etc) for holidays or Sundays.

Thanksgiving has worked for me at a secured sight before. We also got chased after a tower climb on the 4th of July so it kinda depends on the holiday.

I've explored on Christmas eve, new years eve and new years day before and never had any issues, everyone is more chilled and lax with what they're meant to be doing.

Went around SF to scope out some buildings this Thanksgiving, nearly every site that’d have workers was completely quiet and empty. Depending on the site you’re exploring, and the security company issued to the area, you might still have the same experience as going on any other day.

Exploring around the Holidays is nice because it's not as crowded out. Last Christmas, the day after to be exact, I explored a summer camp with some friends of mine. It was nice having a whole campground to ourselves

May Day is coming up soon. If you don't have that, then Labour Day would also probably be a pretty good crane day.

Nice thing about choosing denied area explores on holidays:

Likelihood for fewer security on-duty, people at nearby businesses to notice you.

Liklihood most people are going to be focused on holiday-related things, and not as observant of potential trespassers/suspicious people.

If a holiday like Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc. there may be more of a chance you'll receive mercy from security/LE if you're cool to them & don't make them chase you.



Bad things about choosing denied area explores on holidays:

If it's a major holiday like Christmas & you're arrested, you may sit in jail longer before you see a judge or magistrate for arraignment.

Lawyers may be annoyed/charge a penalty if you're interrupting their holiday.

Depending on specifics, a holiday may mean fewer people out & about, so your presence somewhere, legal or not, may draw more scrutiny from people that do spot you -- could be harder to 'hide in plan sight.'
