Has anyone had any experiences with these signs ? I always become extra cautious but I'm beginning to think they are bogus but it always makes me uneasy !

By law some cities require the owner post warning signs when a dog(s) is present.
If there's a guard dog it's not abandoned...

I've been at a few locations where the signs were up but the building was clearly abandoned. Sometimes the signs are old but still unnerving none the less !

A feral pack of dogs is much more unnerving.
There were at least 3 large dogs that took up residence in an old high school in a small desert town.
Just sitting at the door like wary homeowners... and in fact they were

A single dog you can deal with if you keep your head. Most times the worst that will happen is you'll need to slowly back out of his territory if he's aggressive.
Packs are a handful and potentially very dangerous.
Showing fear is not a viable option...

Just treat it like an active site...

I've never had experience with dogs in an exploring scenario, but blackhawk has some great advice. A heavy tripod might come in handy too, but that should be your last resort. You should always be alert while exploring, so if you hear something just know what to do. Always have a plan in case something goes wrong.

I have a "beware of dog" sign on my front gate. I haven't had a dog in 7yrs. Using Ron Burgundy stats, I'd say 60% of the time it's 100% BS....

Give abandonment a reason for its sacrificial reclamation to nature. Love it. Remember it. Take a picture. Share it. Leave the decay to nature.

When I know there will be guard dogs, I bring dog treats.

Here's one guard dog I befriended a few years ago. The larger white one you can see tied up in the distance was a little louder but still friendly.

When I was collecting electric meter data I got to meet many dogs.
Never bitten once... but I had some close encounters.
Most dogs want to be your friend; it's hard wired into them. I try to make friends with them at first.

Not so sure if I really would liked to have met these two pups without their owner's blessing.
They were a bit twitchy
