I'm a journalist. Worked almost 10 years for a couple of different regional newspapers and also a news agency covering half of the country.

Changed jobs a year ago and now work for a media which specializes on the construction business. I'm surprised how supportive my colleagues have been about my hobby.

Sweet!!, did you go to school for that? I dipped into the independent journalism, shoes this past two years cause of the riots in LA, thought about trying to do it fulltime at a news station but have no leads or idea how to break into that lol

Yup. Did a bachelor's degree on media before getting a full time job. Later upgraded to a master's

I don't know how things work in the US but in Finland it's close to impossible to find employment in journalism without a suitable decree unless getting work in a very small local media.

2023 update: auto parts delivery person.

So far this week I have delivered parts as small as fog lights and as large as remanufactured Powerstrokes. Fun, until something breaks on the truck (which is frequent).

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.

Working as a tech at a IT asset destruction and computer recycling company. Debating moving into real estate photography or maybe just becoming a drifter though.

A 2023 update from me also:

I got a grant for writing a novel, so I took three months of unpaid leave. Until the beginning of 2024 I'm a full time writer and urbex blogger.

I've been around the career field. Spent my first 10 years in the workforce as a retail drone. That is a soul-crushing field to be in, so I eventually began work at an auto parts retailer's warehouse. That wasn't too bad, except the hours were "5 AM until whenever you're done" which could be 10 AM or it could be 8pm. Hard to plan ANYTHING around that kind of schedule and there were people way younger than me blowing out knees and backs.

When we were presented with an opportunity to move states with a better job offer, we took it. It was a $5/hr increase in pay for my hubs, a $2/hr decrease for me at first, but the opportunity for both of us to make better than where we were currently. I had always wanted to get into paint and auto body, so here was a chance to work up towards that. That didn't happen for a combo of reasons. A manager (who didn't know shit about fuck when it came to cars) didn't like that I corrected him and hurt his ego. I refused to brown nose him, so we butted heads. It led to me getting held off on a promotion I very much deserved and eventually I got fired over some REAL bs.

But I still had hopes for paint and body, so I found a shop that said they were willing to train an apprentice. What I instead found was two LOUDLY sexist body techs who "won't pass up on money to waste time" training me, a $10/hr wage to drive 2 hours round trip, an owner who was very loudly racist (like...in public...to folks who came into the shop...uncomfortably so). Between that and the tech who was supposed to train me constantly telling me that "women are the reason we're in business in the first place", I left.

COVID hit and I kinda noodled around with some video editing stuff and selling craft and baked goods. We got a 3D printer, so I started teaching myself how to make my own designs, which got me some freelance work. I also work part time with an auction.

dsankt: In fact, the day I die yall are welcome to form an orderly queue and run a train on my eye sockets. I'll be dead and frankly, will not give a f*ck.
budda: That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Fuck me sideways this is insane.

2023 update (I can't remember when my last one was)

Left my job working with a friend of mine doing industrial type clearances back in January. Found a job working in a company that manufactures composite carbon fibre parts for hypercars and motorsports in April. Leaving that job in a few weeks for various reasons, and starting a new job at a company that cultivates viral antigens. They are a big global biotech company so it has the potential to take me all over the world.
