Give abandonment a reason for its sacrificial reclamation to nature. Love it. Remember it. Take a picture. Share it. Leave the decay to nature.

I stumbled across the history of this place coincidentally when looking for something else.. I don't recall park signs, but this place is in Indian Lake Park in Cross Plains, Wisconsin. It is the Friedrick Matz homestead, settled in 1852. The ruins is the house, and the inside pics of the complete building was the barn. The house burned down in 1949. It said the Matz's continued there for 2 generations, but says no more after that. This is a County Park, open to the public in Dane County.

Across the street from this, you can hike to the hill top overlooking the lake and you can find a TINY church, that is also open to the public. St. Mary's of the Oaks. It was built in 1857 (unclear if it was ever rebuilt, but the concrete block and metal roof indicate it was) by John Endres in fulfillment of a religious vow he made in return for protecting the lives of his family during a diptheria epidemic. The chapel was formally dedicated by Archbishop Messmer in 1926. You can enter it to peek, pray, or sign the guest book. I am not religious at all, but I still respected those that were praying and waited outside for them to finish before I looked. I cannot find the interior pics, but the outside is posted below.
