Sept 4 2004

Still no exploring for me... much packing though. I have more $#!+ than I'd thought possible. But anyway.

Today is my father's birthday - and I forgot.
Damn do I feel like an ass.

I managed to mitigate things slightly by recovering 'lost' photos from my uncle's secure digital card. Every photo...except the one he wanted. Sigh.

Dagr := ass;
if (Dagr == ass)
kick.self();

ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow...

Tomorrow I move.
I cannot wait.

[edit: fresh thoughts]

So maybe it's that I'm fairly new here; I've only been exploring 6 weeks (and what an amazing 6 weeks!! Thanks Boffo, Drie, PSX, 'Snows, 'Jam, Zern, and the names I've forgotten) but it seems there is much discussion over the impact that sites such as uer.ca have on the sites we explore. I'm thinking specifically of the two primary scenarios.

1) authorities use the information here, to make access much much harder

2) vandals, pyros, destructive youth, ravers, and anyone else who might enjoy the locations, for more invasive persuits damage sites we love.

So I wonder if we shouldn't take some security oriented obfuscation steps to protect what we do.

Off the top of my head, the following came, and need not be taken as a whole, but as complementary indivual ideas.

:: Allow the addition on members, by invitation only. Post mochi meets and similar 'neutral location' meets in a publicly visible calendar, for the inquiring minds to find. When they show up we get a much more thorough evaluation than the ten questions currently 'screening' members. Though to be honest, if this were in place before I joined, I would likely not be a member.

Also, I wondered if Av-x might not add a UE calendar to the site regardless, as hunting for information sometimes is difficult. It would be very convenient to be able to flip through a month at a time and see what people are up to, where, and who's interested in company. Would also simplify finding info on Opex events, have it all in one place, instead of spread over 5 pages of thread. But this is really, an 'I feel lazy' suggestion.

:: Only allow demolished structures in the LDB. This hobby is exploration! Explore! Don't have time to hunt out a location while you're working out of town? Hook up with the locals, and network!

I suspect this site would be just as heavily trafficked, as the focus seems more on the community than the locations.

Anyway, if you've read this you may ask why it's here, and not in a relevant thread somewhere. The answer is simple, this is Av's site, and I haven't seen him start a thread soliciting opinions. Frankly he doesn't need to, because the only opinion wrt the site that counts is his.

Also, this is still percolating in my brain, and will for a few days most likely. But at this point I've semi finally decided not post locations to the db, until I wouldn't mind someone torching them the next day.

Yeah.

Now 3 days ago I asked where I could post one or two photos and I guess here works as well as anywhere, so below find the photos I like of last weekend.

No thanks are necessary! You're a good explorer and it's a pleasure to have you with when exploring.
