Thoughts on B&E?

This has probably been discussed on this forum before, so I apologize if I'm missing a huge thread on this. I was wondering how commonplace it is for UER members to bust open windows, kick down doors, or climb roofs to access a place that is fully locked and boarded up.

Read "Access All Areas". Its a personal choice each member makes. It's generally frowned upon and certainly not something that should be discussed in a public forum accessible by law enforcement.

I realize you're new but you've done the equivalent of ripping a loud stinky fart at a cocktail party....

Damn Demon you really are on a roll.
Are we sure your account hasn't been compromised?

Personally I always carry a couple #8 caps and 2 yards of line det cord for those tough to breach sites.

Sometimes it's the only way into a place. If you're gonna do it, don't post that you did it. Just know there are real consequences if you are caught actively breaking into somewhere to just take a few pictures. So you have to be real smart about it. And it's always smart to ditch the tools immediately. Either bring them back to the car/toss them before you go in or bring them in with you and hide them somewhere really good.

Considering B&E is not one specific action, but rather a blanket term for a range of things, you will have a hard time getting a straight answer. Lot of folks on here that will tell you that they will never do anything like that, yet they have committed offenses that would fall into the guidelines of B&E. Before you do anything, read your local pertinent laws on the subject.

To me, B&E means breaking something. I've never had to do that in my entire 11 years urban exploring.

Even if your POE isn't... fully open already (which it damn well should be!) you really don't need to break anything.

Pick a lock (bobby pins only, if there's any chance at all of getting caught), or walk around until you find a way in that's easily accessible. Anything truly abandoned will be easy enough to get into with a little patience without the need to smash anything.

Preserve the things you find.

I've climbed fences and buildings to get in, but never broke or torn openings to gain entry.
Eventually places open up or are reused.
Some places I never got into... not losing any sleep over them.
More often it's a personal failure to watch a place for the right moment for entry before a demo than the fact it was sealed too tight until demo.
There are exceptions... and some of those I shot with permission; unlimited access to a pristine site is as sweet as it gets.

This is pretty much my dream. Anxiety usually gets the better of me while exploring, the whole time I'll be thinking "They're going to be babysitting the entry point when we leave." Being able to take all the time that's needed sounds amazing.

In a good site there's never enough time.
Free reign is great because you can shoot exposed and concentrate on what you're doing.
Shooting the demo crews tearing down buildings and smoke stacks is fun and we'll worth the effort to develop a good relationship with a demo contractor.
Do what you say, say what you do...

You're not a good explorer if you do those things. They're like dog owners who let their dog crap in middle of the sidewalk and walk off with a plain face.

Creating gaping POE attracts kids, non-explorers and taggers. The location quickly gets exhibited on Instagram and will bring in additional traffic that wants to ruin the place. It was sealed by whoever responsible for the place to keep people out. It gets sealed tighter and monitored closer to protect from further damage.

I only use C4, crowbars, and battering rams to make a POE, but I would never break a window or a door to get in. That is against the rules and frowned upon in here.

I treat my abandoned buildings like I treat my girls: if I can't enter without breaking, I won't.

Also, I don't post photographs of points of entry...

B&E is fine to me, but possession of tools like crowbars is a huge gamble with the chance of you getting caught. If a policeman catches you with siege weapons to scale a building, you'll be in for a fun ride.

Yeah don't do it. There is always a way in, it just might be above your skill level.

It was in September, we saw their silhouettes fade away, outlined on the horizon against the rays of the setting sun.
