Does anyone else have a problem exploring certain areas due to work conflict, I'm talking drains tunnels abandonments cranes etc any form

We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained we must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be by the better angels of our nature.

Well, work comes first.

Yep! I work for a local non profit and I refuse to explore in the city in which my work is located. It would be bad if I got arrested there, we serve the elderly population in the community.

I've resisted, even though there is a SUPER tempting building right on the corner across the street. I scoped it out and everything, but I don't want to chance it.

The short answer is no, and I have an awesome job. Your calculus may differ depending on your field of work, but here are some of my thought processes: What if I get busted for climbing a crane in my hometown and end up on the news? What if I'm arrested and can't call/email in before missing a day of work? Then again, what if I never saw these things because I was riddled with fear? What if I eliminated risk in all aspects of my life?

For me, exploring is about separating rational and irrational fears. And the chances of

a) being caught
b) charged with a crime
c) unable to contact my boss to call in to work
d) going through the embarrassment of dealing with my boss/HR
e) actually losing my job
f) all the other steps I'm not aware of because this scenario has never happened to me

all these are inconsequential in comparison to the satisfaction I get from exploring.

It certainly puts a damper on things. I definitely scouted, explored, and generally took more UE risks during the period I was laid off. No anchor holding you down - as described by sara'mer above

Priorities.
Kids don't have them, but adults better.
Exploring is a hobby not career.
It doesn't put the food on the table.

A bust can screw up not just your current/future career, but your ability to urban exploring as well.
Anyone remember the mod Walking Talking Poison?
I do...

It sounds classier if you pronounce it "tray-passing"

Every boss I've had since I started doing this has known (plus there was the tv series thing) and none have given a shit. But being public about it certainly could go in other directions.

I can't seem to find my copy of Early 2000's UE History, can I borrow your notes?

No. What's posted is what she wants to share...

Point is one bust or -fall- can fuck your life and exploring up proper.
Surviving intact and hobby longevity are more important than that one site or climb.

Choose wisely. Know when to abort.

I explored a helluva lot more when I was working. My job gave me a chance to travel all over Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana. Guess maybe if I did less exploring and more selling the company would still be in business. Oh the Catch 22 is making my brain hurt.

Not to be unsympathetic, but can you turn that frown upside down?

It seems that through your work, you've had the chance to see things very few of us have, some of which are now gone forever.

You're also learning a lot more about this city than the rest of us ever will, which is something you can take with you for long after you quit or change jobs.

There are a lot of irreversible changes happening downtown these days, you're pretty lucky if you're involved in any of them.

Only as far as timing, fatigue, etc etc. Lately I haven't had time for anything other than work. I'm hoping to do some serious exploring this summer in July/August....haven't had any luck finding accomplices who are free at the same time as me so just been going solo.
